Instrumentation/Automation Service Engineer I - OS

Abbott seeks an Instrumentation/Automation Service Engineer I to install, calibrate, maintain, and repair laboratory automation equipment across clinical, R&D, manufacturing, and quality control settings. The role operates in regulated environments and requires strong troubleshooting and communication skills, with a night shift schedule (Tuesday–Friday, 8 pm–6:30 am).
Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and qualify advanced automation systems per service policies
- Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for automation failures
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibrations, and system startups following established protocols
- Maintain accurate service records and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards
- Mentor Level 1 technicians on troubleshooting and provide technical support to lab operations
Requirements
- Experience installing and commissioning automation systems or laboratory equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex laboratory automation and robotics
- Knowledge of regulated environments (CAP/CLIA, cGMP, FDA, ISO standards)
- Strong communication and collaborative problem-solving skills
- Ability to read assembly drawings and technical documentation
- Capability to lift 40 pounds and work standing 60–75% of shift
