Middle School Visual Arts Teacher at Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School Base Pay Range: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year. Classification: Exempt, 10-Month Employee Reports to: Middle School Principal Responsibilities ngExhibit an understanding of and skills relevant to the subject area(s) taug htDemonstrate an ability to make topics and activities meaningful and relevant to each stude ntIntegrate available technology resources compatible with students’ needs and abiliti esDevelop lesson plans that are clear, logical, and sequenti alPlan with appropriate specialist(s) to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all studen Instructional Strategies iesLink present content/skills with past and future learning experien cesEffectively use various instructional strategies (e.g., modeling, cooperative learning, collaboration, and reading and writing in the content areas) to differentiate learning for all stude ntsEffectively use questioning strategies to engage students and promote learn ingMonitor students’ understanding of the lesson and adjusts teaching when appropri ateMaximize student learning by providing opportunities for all learners to participate actively and successfu llyExplain content and demonstrates skills in a variety of ways to meet the needs of all stude ntsHold each learner individually responsible for learn ingPlan and execute art showcases, including for bulletin boards, events, and an annual art show featuring the students’ w Assessment mentUse results of a variety of assessments to monitor and modify instruction as ne ededEffectively use both teacher-made and standardized tests, as appropriate, to measure student perform anceUse oral, non-verbal, and performance tasks/projects for student assess mentOrganize, maintain, and use records of student progress to make effective instructional decis ionsContinuously monitor students’ progress before, during, and after instruction, and provides meaningful feed backDemonstrate competence in the use of acceptable grading/ranking/scoring practices in recording and reporting student achieve Student Communication and Participation pportUse precise language and acceptable oral expression and written communic ationArticulate clear learning goals and instructional procedures for the lesson to the stu dentsModel caring, fairness, courtesy, respect and active list eningModel concern for students’ emotional and physical well beingSeek and maintains positive interactions with students in all school set tingsSeek information about student interests and opi Classroom Management ementEnforce the school’s student behavior p olicyCommunicate clear expectations about behavior to students and pa rentsActively monitor student behavior and provides feedback in a constructive manner to students and pa rentsCreate a physical setting and establishes routines that promote learning and minimize disru ptionStructure transitions in an efficient and constructive m annerManage emergency situations, as they occur, in school set Professional Demeanor and Development pmentMaintain a professional appearance and compor tmentInteract with colleagues and students in an ethical and professional m annerCarry out duties in accordance with established policies, practices, and regula tionsSelect appropriate channels for resolving concerns and problems, and maintain confidenti alityComplete all classroom and school assignments and responsibilities in a timely and effective m annerParticipate in professional growth activities including conferences, workshops, course work and committees or membership in professional organiza tionsExplore and apply knowledge and information about new or improved methods of instruction and related i ssuesIdentify areas of personal strength and weakness and seek improvement of skills and professional perfor School Community and Culture ltureInitiate communication with parents or guardians concerning student progress or problems in a timely m annerRespond promptly to parental concerns and encourages parental involvement within the s choolWork cooperatively with community members in carrying our school and community sponsored func tionsBuild collaborative relationships with colleagues, sharing teaching insights and coordinating student lea Teaching Skills and Abilities itiesPlan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program in Visual ArtsProvide appropriate and effective learning experiences for pupils from a wide range achievement l evelsProvide a motivating and stimulating learning enviro nmentFollow safety procedures and written and verbal instruc tionsOrganize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasksDemonstrate good judgment and good problem-solving s killsRespond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work se ttingKnowledge or ability to use SIS (student information systems) or online learning platforms (PowerSchool, Google Classroom, Qualifications Bachelors Degree required; at least 2 years prior teaching art in middle/high school preferred NYS certification in Visual Arts preferred Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school setting Excellent oral and written communication skills Experience with educational technology (SMART Board, student laptops, Supervisory Responsibilities None Position Type & Expected Hours of Work Full-time, 10-month position. On-site only. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm, plus any special events. Salary Range $70,000.00–$95,000.00 annually (Based on experience) Travel Minimum to no travel required.
