PreK-8 Visual Arts Teacher

Position Responsibilities and Requirements Fluency of American Sign Language and strong knowledge of Deaf Culture or willingness to learn within the first year of hire. Willingness and commitment to participate in school‑offered ASL classes. Understands, supports and can articulate the school’s mission and vision to students, faculty, families, staff, and the public outside the school. Excellent classroom management. Participation in the school community, team meetings and extracurricular activities. Plan and deliver sequential, standards‑aligned visual arts instruction for assigned grade levels. Develop lesson plans that incorporate a variety of media, techniques, and art history content (including Deaf artists). Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs), Children‑of‑Deaf Adults (CODAs), and students with disabilities. Integrate interdisciplinary connections between visual arts and other subject areas. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities. Contribute to school events such as exhibitions, performances, and arts showcases. Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment. Encourage creativity, experimentation, and student voice through project‑based learning. Maintain organized studio spaces and ensure proper use and care of materials and equipment.
