Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations

Position Description This is a highly relational and strategic role focused on strengthening constituent engagement, advancing a culture of philanthropy, and building meaningful long‑term connections across the Mirman community. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, this role partners closely with Advancement staff, colleagues across the institution, and key volunteers to support the School’s fundraising and engagement priorities. The professional in this position will oversee all aspects of both Mirman’s Annual Giving and Alumni Relations programs. Annual Giving Responsibilities Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Annual Giving program, building upon the school’s strong foundation of giving, and ensuring that annual giving goals are achieved Maintain a portfolio of annual giving major donors, make solicitations, cultivate relationships, and secure gifts from all constituencies Identify and advance opportunities to deepen community engagement and foster a strong culture of philanthropy among parents, grandparents, parents of alumni, and alumni Oversee Annual Giving messaging and communications, including the Annual Giving website, acknowledgements, solicitation letters, and brochures Oversee the production of the Annual Report, with support and guidance from the Director of External Relations related to branding, marketing, and messaging Strengthen the connection between Annual Giving and future major and transformative giving opportunities by partnering with the Director of Advancement to identify, cultivate, and steward donors with long‑term philanthropic potential Recruit and collaborate with parent, past parent, grandparent, faculty, staff, and alumni annual giving volunteer chairs and committee members Generate weekly reports and other communication on Annual Giving for volunteer and school leadership Provide data updates and analysis on key Annual Giving constituents and strategy, assist in donor prospect research Oversee donor cultivation and stewardship events Alumni Relations Responsibilities Develop and execute a strategic vision for alumni engagement that advances Mirman’s institutional priorities, strengthens lifelong affinity with the School, and builds measurable pathways toward volunteerism, mentorship, advocacy, and philanthropy Build a dynamic and visible alumni presence within the life of the school through storytelling, social media, publications, campus programming, mentorship, speaker opportunities, and meaningful student/alumni connections Create, benchmark, and evaluate alumni engagement initiatives and events with an emphasis on participation, relationship‑building, long‑term impact, and growth in alumni giving and volunteer leadership Reimagine and provide leadership for the Alumni Council and related volunteer structures to foster meaningful alumni involvement in outreach, networking, events, and fundraising efforts Partner with the Director of Advancement to identify, cultivate, and steward alumni with leadership, major gift, and long‑term philanthropic potential Oversee alumni communications and data strategy, including maintaining and expanding alumni records, soliciting alumni stories and testimonials, and ensuring consistent engagement across digital and print platforms Develop opportunities for current students to understand and experience the long‑term value of belonging to the Mirman alumni community Other Responsibilities In partnership with the Director of External Relations, manage and coordinate content related to Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, including messaging, scheduling, and production for the school website, newsletters, invitations, publications, social media, and other communications materials Remain actively engaged in the daily life on our campus in order to serve as an informed and authentic ambassador for Mirman, including participation in all‑school events, assemblies, student supervision responsibilities including carline, and other community‑facing activities Stay current with Mirman School programs, curriculum, student experiences, and institutional priorities in order to effectively communicate the school’s mission, culture, and impact to constituents and prospective supporters Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications BA degree required; advanced degree or professional experience in advancement, communications, nonprofit management, marketing, education, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of advancement, fundraising, alumni relations, or related experience, preferably within an independent school or nonprofit environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work with and motivate colleagues and volunteers. Demonstrated success producing and managing advancement and engagement materials, with a portfolio of work that may include alumni newsletters, annual reports, solicitation materials, campaign communications, digital content, and related publications. Analytical and fundraising skills, preferably in the education or non‑profit sector, with a proven ability to set and achieve goals. Familiarity with fundraising databases and donor relations practices is essential; experience with Blackbaud Raisers Edge is preferred. Internet savvy and experienced with social media forums. Availability to work selected evenings and weekends. Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to Mirman’s vision, mission and guiding principles. Exhibit high standards of ethics, moral character, professionalism, and the ability to present oneself as a positive role model for students. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a sense of humor. Growth mindset and detail oriented. First Aid and CPR training required (training provided if not currently certified). Valid CA driver license and clear criminal background investigation.
