Department Summary Campus Life, a division of Student Affairs, provides leadership and administrative oversight for multiple units including the Community Programs Office (CPO), the Office of Student Organizations, Leadership, and Engagement (SOLE), Recreation and Wellbeing, Veteran Services, Fraternity & Sorority Life, LGBTQ Campus Resource Center (LGBTQ), Spirit Squad, Volunteer Center, Commuter Support Services, Student Organization Funding, Outreach & Retention student-initiated projects, Respondent Services and Student Alumni Programs & Family Engagement, with annual revenues and expenditures approaching $40M. Position Summary Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Human Resources, with oversight from the Deputy Director of Campus Life, the Human Resources Manager serves as an integral part of the Human Resources team for Campus Life and the Student Affairs organization. The Human Resources Manager has primary administrative responsibility for human resource management for the department of Campus Life and will provide support to all assigned client departments. The Human Resources Manager, using strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills, has responsibilities in the development, implementation, administration, analysis and evaluation of human resource programs, procedures, and standards in human resource management to ensure that there are consistent and equitable practices among the Campus Life departments. In addition, the Human Resources Manager oversees the administration of personnel and payroll functions for Campus Life (and other assigned departments) with approximately 400+ positions. The role reviews and manages the approval process for all personnel/payroll actions in compliance with UC and departmental policies and procedures, analyzes and makes recommendations regarding departmental personnel and payroll policies, provides training to managers and supervisors on policies and procedures, monitors compliance reports, and oversees performance evaluation, salary increase processes and incentive award programs. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors such as budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Benefits start on day one, and the total compensation value includes benefits. Qualifications 3-5+ years progressive experience in an HR role (Required) Previous HR Generalist experience (Preferred) Demonstrated working knowledge and ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply generally accepted organizational personnel and payroll principles, practices, and policies to resolve the full range of HR‑related issues. Demonstrated experience (typically four or more years) in human resources administration. (Required) Demonstrated skill in financial analysis and planning, specifically in personnel cost projections and planning. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, multitask and delegate work under conflicting demands and meeting simultaneous deadlines. (Required) Interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members, students, faculty, administration and the public. Demonstrated skill in providing employee relations counseling to supervisors and employees. (Required) Ability to understand, retain, explain and accurately apply a variety of information and procedures. Demonstrated skills to provide direction, guidance, resolutions for conflicts, and training to different levels and diversified staff. (Required) Demonstrated ability to handle confidential material and demonstrate discretion and sensitivity. Demonstrated supervisory skills to provide direction, guidance, performance feedback, and counseling; to delegate work and evaluate the performance of subordinate employees and student assistants. (Required) Ability to establish and maintain trusting, cooperative working relationships with Campus Human Resources, central campus offices, Campus Life staff, administrators and other officials. Skill in making appropriate decisions following established procedures and departmental policies. (Required) Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze information and problems, locate available resources and formulate recommendations for options. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction on day-to-day assignments. (Required) Ability to take initiative to investigate and identify relevant issues to improve overall operational effectiveness. Skill in writing concise, grammatically correct correspondence, policies, procedures, job descriptions and investigative reports. (Required) Ability to accurately and efficiently handle a high volume of detailed data, and with frequent interruptions or distractions. Working knowledge and demonstrated skill in PC systems and software applications such as MS Word, Mail, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. (Required) Preferred experience administering HR programs in a University with established policies and procedures. Demonstrated working knowledge of University personnel policies and procedures, including personnel policies for staff members and bargaining unit agreements for AFSCME (EX), Teamsters (CX), UPTE(HX) and UPTE (TX). Demonstrated working knowledge and ability to use the following University online personnel and payroll systems: UCPath, UCTRS, Cognos, and PeopleAdmin. Demonstrated working knowledge of UC financial systems including TOF, and Recharge Order Request. (Preferred) Working knowledge of auditing principles and practices in a unionized environment. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
