Unlike traditional security, this role is integrated into the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to identify and mitigate behavioral and social-emotional barriers that prevent students from succeeding academically. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Crisis Intervention & School Safety Crisis First Response: Serve as a trained member of the school’s crisis response team, providing physical and emotional safety during behavioral emergencies involving at-risk pupils. Anti-Bullying Initiatives: Support the implementation of building-specific anti-bullying strategies. Environmental Safety: Conduct regular checks of school access points (doors, gates) and common areas to ensure a "hardened" yet welcoming environment that minimizes student anxiety regarding physical safety. 2. Social-Emotional & Behavioral Support De-escalation & Reengagement: Provide immediate, short-term support for at-risk students who are becoming dysregulated, acting as a bridge back to the classroom. Restorative Practices: Participate in restorative circles or mediation between students to resolve peer-on-peer harm and reduce recidivism in behavioral referrals. 3. Chronic Absenteeism & Engagement Attendance Advocacy: Monitor daily attendance for a designated caseload of at-risk students. Conduct hallway "re-engagement" sweeps to identify students skipping class and mentor them back toward instructional time. Relationship Building: Serve as a consistent, non-evaluative mentor for students to improve their daily connection to the school community. School Climate and Culture: Participate in the district's MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) team meetings to provide observational data on student behavior and environmental safety. 4. Daily Compliance Log Daily Log: Brief documentation of time and effort with at-risk students. MTSS Integration: Evidence of attendance at "Problem Solving" or MTSS team meetings. Admin Time & Effort Reporting: Monthly admin certification that 100% of work time was spent on 31a-eligible activities (supporting at-risk pupils and climate). Qualifications & Skills Experience: Background in public safety, military, or social services preferred. Training: Must be willing to complete training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (e.g., CPI) and Restorative Practices, as well as other district-identified relevant training. Interpersonal: Strong ability to build rapport with children and teenagers and maintain a calm demeanor in high-stress situations.
