This entry‑level position supports a defense attorney by applying criminal procedures, rules, and laws to a variety of litigation needs. The paralegal is bound by the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct, including confidentiality and attorney‑client privilege. Primary Duties And Responsibilities Manage and organize discovery, including converting files to PDF, building trial notebooks, creating digital bookmarks and indexes, and managing case records. Review and summarize discovery, videos, witness interviews, and transcripts, highlighting significant matters for the defense team. Review client charges, pleadings, and court orders; research legal issues requested by attorneys, such as statutes, case law, and sentencing considerations. Search case‑related information (media, news, public records) to support trial preparation and strategy. Keep attorneys and defense teams updated on new case information. Draft routine motions, briefs, legal memoranda, proofread and edit attorneys' drafts, file pleadings, and redact documents. Prepare appellate packets and coordinate with the Appellate Office to ensure timely filing of Notices of Appeal. Track and monitor case status and critical timelines to ensure court filings meet procedural requirements. Provide support for hearings or trials, including jury selection, witness/exhibit tracking, client communication, note‑taking, coordination of trial materials, and technical assistance with audiovisual platforms. Draft and respond to correspondence from clients, families, and collateral agencies. Perform administrative tasks such as processing forms and documents in accordance with State Office policy.
