About the Role
The Company is in search of a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal officer and a strategic advisor to the executive team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading legal strategy and governance, providing counsel on a wide range of legal, regulatory, policy, and reputational matters, and overseeing all legal operations, including litigation, investigations, corporate governance, compliance, and contracts. This role is pivotal in shaping organizational strategy and requires a leader with a deep commitment to educational opportunity and equity. The General Counsel will have a highly visible position, influencing the future of public education and partnering closely with senior leaders in a dynamic, values-driven environment. The ideal candidate for the General Counsel position at the company will have a distinguished record in handling high-stakes legal matters, with significant experience in litigation and expertise in areas such as employment law, education law, compliance, and corporate governance. A J.D. is essential, and experience leading legal functions at scale is strongly preferred. The role demands exceptional judgment, executive presence, and the ability to navigate ambiguity while influencing senior stakeholders and boards. The General Counsel will be a mission-driven leader, deeply committed to the values and goals of the organization, and will play a key role in the company's efforts to create a more just world through education.
