Position Summary Under the direction of department leadership, performs clerical and other technical lab duties in an efficient, timely and accurate manner, with quality that exceeds customer expectations. Demonstrates the ability to take initiative and drive productivity and support others with direction, training, and mentorship. Performs advanced customer service tasks, executed at high service level. Aligns to and supports Versiti's mission, vision, and values as well as department goals and objectives. Understands to a high degree the importance of daily tasks performed and the impact they have on the patients and providers we work with to provide lifesaving diagnostic services. Responsibilities Understand and perform to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements. Participate in regulatory audits, as needed. Ship, receive, and track packages and specimens while maintaining the integrity of samples, as needed. Receive, classify, and process specimens in an accurate and expedient manner. Inspect specimens and paperwork for accuracy and acceptability and maintain sample identity and ensure samples are handled and stored at appropriate temperatures to prevent loss of sample. Use appropriate systems to accurately perform data entry functions. Proofread own work for content, spelling, accuracy, and document format. Maintain sample integrity and ensure proper identification of all specimens. Prepare samples for laboratory testing, as needed. May perform reagent preparation. Operate, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance and calibration on equipment, as needed. Identify and clearly document sample issues or discrepancies and work with client to resolve, as appropriate. Answer telephone calls and respond to email requests with professionalism and a high degree of courtesy and responsiveness. Research and resolve complex issues with follow up to customers in a prompt manner. Use written and verbal communication skills to provide exemplary customer service to internal and external customers, and appropriately documents interactions. Ensure maintenance and organization of departmental records, and execution of reagent and supply inventory control process as needed. Perform training activities and provide mentorship to trainees assisting junior and peer staff members with complex issues, and may support the assessment of staff competence, as appropriate. Oversee that daily tasks are completed in a highly efficient manner. May participate in validation and implementation of new processes or equipment, and support Controlled Document processes to ensure that Standard Operating Procedures are accurate, compliant, and up to date. Maintain all applicable competencies and performs duties, and maintains sufficient Continuing Education credits, as applicable per laboratory policy. Support scheduling process, and work weekend and holiday rotations as needed. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification. Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements. Complies with all standard operating policies and procedures. Qualifications Education High School Diploma required. Equivalent required. Two years attendance at an accredited college, university or technical college with emphasis in a science/medical related field preferred. Experience Mastery of Laboratory Support Specialist duties, responsibilities, and behaviors required. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other department manuals. Excellent required. Ability to apply judgment to written or oral instructions. Aptitude for computers and superior data entry skills. Ability to manage frequent interruptions in a fast‑paced and high‑volume environment. Ability to transition from one task to another in an efficient manner. Advanced customer service skills. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide constructive criticism to fellow employees. Flexibility to work independently and with a team. Organized and able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at one time and provide direction to others. Ability to work independently with limited written or oral instruction.
