Shift Lead

Job Summary Opens and closes the store in the absence of store management, including all required systems startups, required cash handling, and ensuring the floor and stock room are ready for the business day. Responsible for opening the back door of the store for deliveries. Completes product returns, order voids, customer refunds, cash drops to the safe, and provides change as requested to cash registers. Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Job Responsibilities Customer Experience Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, serving until satisfied). Operations Hold store keys to open and close without management as necessary. Assist and coach other team members with warehouse and vendor ordering processes, including opening the backdoor for vendor deliveries. Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, including records of scanning errors, price verifications, items not on file, price modifications, and voids. Assist manager or assistant store manager in reviewing order exceptions on order release day and in reverse logistics (e.g., 1506, returns, empty package). Assist manager or assistant store manager in evaluating and developing displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise. Complete resets and revisions. Maintain accurate inventory counts and the accuracy of on‑hand quantities across all departments. Ensure the Outdate program is followed with team members. Maintain basic department pricing, making daily price changes and ensuring proper signage is displayed at the store to support accurate pricing of products and related regulatory compliance. Assist with bookkeeping activities, including cash report, cash counts, ledgers, and bill payment as necessary. Assist with exterior and interior maintenance, ensuring a clean, neat, orderly store condition and appearance, and request store or system repairs as required. Maintain correct separation of food items and product placement as specified by policies (e.g., raw and frozen meats on bottom shelves) and manage stock rotation using the first in, first out method. Support execution of the Pickup program. Possess working knowledge of store systems and store equipment. Assist at the pharmacy counter as allowed without licensure or certification, or meet required licensure or certification where required. Ensure compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages and tobacco products). Perform bag checks of team members before leaving the store. Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned. Training & Personal Development Attend training and complete PPLs requested by Manager. Communications Serve as a liaison between management and non‑management team members by communicating assigned tasks when store management is absent. Report disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management. Basic Qualifications One year of prior leadership, supervisory, or retail key holder work experience. Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of store inventory control. Obtains and maintains valid PTCB or ExCPT certification or pharmacy license as required by state.
