Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Our hospitals are supportive environments committed to excellent medicine, and provide exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Gather patient histories. Perform physical exams. Create treatment plans. Conduct diagnostics. Provide dentistry services. Observe/assist or perform surgical procedures. Manage medical care of patients. Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Externship Duration Most externship experiences at Montville Veterinary Group range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Eligibility & Stipend Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Montville Veterinary Group is $1,000.
