At its current location since 1959, it is also one of the Top 10 railroad museums in the U.S. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. In addition to owning the Museum's daily accounting, the Senior Accountant works closely with the CFO and Executive Director, supports financial reporting and audits, and plays a critical role in supporting the Museum's growth. If you meet the qualifications and are looking for an excellent opportunity to learn and grow in the nonprofit accounting field, we'd like to meet you!Responsibilities and Essential FunctionsMaintain the general ledger to ensure financial records are accuratePerform daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, payments and cash depositsOwn month/year-end closing processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliationsMaintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedulesAccount for restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and contributionsPrepare and/or assist with filing IRS forms 990, 1096, and 1099, and sales tax receiptsSupport external audit(s), including schedules and auditor requestsMaintain and enhance internal controlsSupport Museum leadership with annual budgeting processes and financial reportingOther duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting or related field (required)5+ years of professional accounting experienceExcellent general accounting skills, strong knowledge of GAAPNon-profit experience, including grant and restricted fund accounting is a plusHigh level of accuracy and attention to detail • Experience with Quick Books Online; Blackbaud Altru is a plusAdvanced MS Excel skillsWork EnvironmentPosition requires working on-siteStanding may occasionally be required for extended periods of timeAbility to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds • This position operates in a busy indoor environment; crowds and moderate to very noisy sound levels are commonAssociated outdoor duties are also required for opening and closing, during special events, and for other necessary activities.
