This role is ideal for an experienced medical coder who is highly detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently. The Certified Coder plays an important role in ensuring that physician services are accurately coded, charges are processed timely, and claims are submitted correctly and compliantly. This position requires someone who can take ownership of their work, manage responsibilities with minimal supervision, research coding questions, identify problems, and follow issues through to resolution. Professionals who take initiative, recognize issues, and address them rather than waiting for someone else to identify or resolve them Education and Experience Valid medical coding certification such as CPC, COC, CCS, or CCS-P required High school diploma or equivalent required Prior experience in medical coding, medical billing, or Revenue Cycle operations preferred Working knowledge and experience with EHR and medical billing software Experience with ModMed EHR preferred Understanding of private insurance rules, payer requirements, and medical billing regulations Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel Strong understanding of medical terminology and coding principles Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines Ability to research issues, exercise sound judgment, and follow through to resolution What You'll Do As a Certified Coder, you'll be responsible for helping ensure SVA's physician services are accurately coded, processed, and submitted for payment. Responsibilities include: Reviewing charges daily for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate coding and processing charges timely Collecting and reviewing physician surgery and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) charges for accuracy and entering into Practice Management system Reviewing and resolving claim rejections from the clearinghouse Working practice management system claim edits and correcting coding or billing issues to ensure submission of clean claims Responding to coding questions from physicians and staff Working clinic-submitted tasks related to coding, charges, and billing issues and following them through to resolution Reviewing and reconciling missed charge reports to identify missed charges, system errors, or other discrepancies Familiarity with major payer policies, coding requirements, and billing guidelines and communicating applicable updates to physicians and staff Creating and distributing coding and billing education and tip communications to support consistent and compliant billing practices Running reports, researching information, analyzing data, and assisting with departmental projects as requested Using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications to organize, track, reconcile, and report information Maintaining accurate and timely documentation related to coding, billing, charge processing, and assigned responsibilities Managing multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy Taking ownership of assigned work and providing appropriate follow-up and communication when issues require additional information or assistance Why You'll Love Working With Us Work-Life Balance Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays Bereavement leave and jury duty pay Medical, dental, and vision insurance with a generous employer-paid portion Employer-paid life insurance and short-term or long-term disability (based on position) Access to supplemental benefits such as accident and critical illness coverage Perks That Matter Employer-matched 401(k) Employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts (HSA), when applicable Training & Growth Opportunity to expand knowledge of ophthalmology coding and retina-specific billing Ongoing exposure to changing payer requirements and coding guidelines Opportunity to contribute to coding education and process improvement Collaborative environment while maintaining the independence and accountability expected of the role Ready to Bring Your Expertise to SVA?
