Financial Controller

Job Summary – Controller, New Orleans
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and financial management activities of the company. Reporting directly to the President, this role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while supporting strategic planning and executive decision-making. The Controller partners with executive leadership to support operational performance, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accuracy
- Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable regulatory standards
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely completion
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability of financial data
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasts
- Develop financial forecasts, projections, and long-term financial models
- Monitor and analyze actual results versus budget and forecast
- Provide detailed variance analysis with actionable recommendations
- Collaborate with leadership to align financial planning with business objectives
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Establish, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting, regulatory requirements, and audits
- Develop, document, and enforce accounting policies and financial procedures
- Coordinate external audits and address findings as needed
Cash Flow & Financial Management
- Monitor and manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial obligations
- Support effective cash management and capital allocation strategies
Strategic Financial Support
- Provide financial insights, analysis, and recommendations for executive leadership
- Analyze financial results to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Support business growth initiatives, including cost controls, investments, and expansion
- Assist leadership with financial decision-making and strategic planning
Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee accounting systems and financial software, including ERP platforms
- Improve financial reporting processes, automation, and efficiency
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across financial systems
- Lead continuous process improvement initiatives within accounting and finance
Risk Management
- Identify financial and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Ensure appropriate financial safeguards, insurance coverage, and controls are in place
- Support risk management planning and compliance efforts
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (CPA
- strongly preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience
- Knowledge and experience in industrial accounting and job costing
- Proven experience compiling financial statements and managing financial reporting
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems
- Experience with Peachtree (Sage 50) and/or QuickBooks is a plus
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
