Senior Principal Scientist, Neuropsychiatry Discovery

Senior Principal Scientist position in neuropsychiatry discovery research at Johnson & Johnson's San Diego location. Lead complex biological research projects supporting psychiatric disease drug development, driving cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution while mentoring junior scientists.
Responsibilities
- Lead independent major portions of complex biological research projects aligned with neuropsychiatry strategy
- Design, execute, and interpret biochemical, cellular, molecular, and translational studies
- Drive cross-functional biology and biotechnology initiatives from conception through execution
- Identify emerging biological insights and translate them into actionable project strategies
- Mentor junior colleagues and provide technical guidance to build research capability and collaboration
Requirements
- PhD in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in neuroscience or related discipline
- Drug discovery and development experience with neuropharmacology expertise
- Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology, cell culture systems, and functional assays
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to develop innovative solutions
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
- Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools for scientific insights and data analysis
Compensation: $137,000–$235,750 base
