About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal advisor and a strategic partner to the President, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team. The successful candidate will be a leader in the legal field, providing counsel on a wide range of issues including governance, employment, contracts, litigation, intellectual property, and federal grant compliance. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the organization can fulfill its mission in a complex legal, regulatory, and geopolitical environment. The General Counsel will also be responsible for integrating legal considerations into strategic and operational decisions, particularly those involving press freedom, censorship, and reputational risk. The ideal General Counsel for the company will be a pragmatic, solutions-oriented leader with the agility and resilience to operate effectively in a changing and uncertain environment. They will oversee relationships with outside counsel, ensure proactive and efficient legal practices, and foster a culture of trust and credibility. As a member of the senior leadership team, the General Counsel will contribute to the organization's strategy and culture, with a deep appreciation for independent journalism and freedom of expression.
