FL-DOH-Pinellas Special Needs Shelters-LPN (810061)

Pay rate: $45.00 per hour

Hours : 12 hr shifts, 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am

Oa  Oak Grove Middle School (alternate site if John Hopkins is not usable due to storm surge prediction) 1370 S. Belcher Rd. Clearwater, FL 33764 

Ste Step Down Shelter (Location and opening time to be determined by county post-storm) Pinellas County, Florida

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:  DOH will be conducting the level 2 fingerprinting.  Candidates will be screened prior to 1st deployment and expected to report when called.  DOH will accept candidates who have an active level 2 background in the AHCA Clearinghouse.

CREDENTIALING: DOH only requires the supplier to verify the medical licenses in NURSYS ( or DOH MQA Search Portal ( internet.doh.state.fl.us/MQASearchServices/HealthCareProviders)

DEPLOYMENT: DOH would normally inform CAI within 3-4 days ahead of the date and staff would be deployed for a few days and also have a group to relief the initial group after 72 hours.  The deployment may or may not be 72 hours; that’s a conservative estimate given evacuation lead times prior to storm landfall.   Shifts once deployed are 12 hours on, 12 hours off. The off hours are on-site with continued pay; if the contractor chooses to go to a hotel or makes other off-site arrangements, it will not be paid.

WHAT TO BRING :  DOH will provide PPE, although obviously if an individual has a specific preference or is accustomed to a specific respirator they are welcome to bring their own. Meals and water are provided by the school, but I would advise any worker to bring additional food and/or snacks, particularly if they have dietary restrictions, as the food is middle school cafeteria dining.  Bedding - air mattress/cot and linens – space is limited, (twin size is recommended).  C lothing - Comfortable clothing for 7 days (scrubs are preferred).  Comfortable closed-toe shoes/sneakers. Toiletries , personal medications and person hygiene items (no showers available).  Rince-Free bath sponges, baby wipes.  Entertainment , phone charges, ear plugs/eye mask.  NO JEWELRY, VALUABLE, EAPONS, ALCOHOL, ILLICIT/ILLEGAL DRUGS.

WORK ENVIORNMENT: ALL CAMPUSES ARE NON-SMOKING.  Middle schools being utilized for hurricane shelter for special needs Pinellas County residents.  School classrooms shred by staff members.

Each special needs shelter and/or step-down shelter shall be staffed by 12 Certified Nursing Assistants, 12 LPNs, and 10 RNs. This scope of work should be scalable to meet surge capacity requirements, with additional staff available on standby to call in as needs arise. Training - Training will be provided by Department of Health nurses at the shelter.

SIGN IN-OUT PROCEDURE :  Report to your designated SpNS at your assigned time.  Identify yourself and your agency at the registration desk, where you'll be directed to the Resource Unit Lead.  You will be assigned a space for sleeping.  You will be assigned to a designated shelter area under the leadership of DOH-Pinellas' Clinical Leads.  Sign in / out at the shelter before and after shifts.  Keep track of time worked (you may need to have your timesheets signed by shelter leadership).

TYPE OF PATIENTS: Special needs patients are of all ages and sign up to attend these shelters

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES : 

· As directed by the DOH-Pinellas ShelterLead(s), provide the following as needed to each client:

o Assistance with medication administration

o Assistance with the use of oxygen and otherdurable medical equipment

o Assistance with toileting and personal hygiene

o Assistance with wound care

o Assistance with ambulation

o Assistance with feeding and nutrition

o Monitoring of overall client health

o Documentation of client health status andassistance provided

· Seek assistance from a Licensed Client Carestaff member if you do not believe you can perform a required task

· Keep clients aware of time and if assistanceis needed with self-administered medication treatments, notify a LicensedClient Care staff member

·Useuniversal precautions: wash hands effectively and often, and use personalprotective equipment if necessary

·Maintainthe safety and security of the shelter
