Interim Access and Financial Engagement Senior Manager

Overview

The Interim Access and Financial Engagement Senior Manager, provides day-to-day leadership and operational support across patient access functions that include registration, financial counseling, financial clearance and inpatient admissions. This role helps maintain a welcoming patient experience, supports efficient patient flow, monitors compliance with registration/admissions and payer requirements, and partners with operational, financial, clinical, and Epic teams to advance departmental and institutional priorities. The role also provides interim support for planning, implementation, reporting, training, and process improvement work across the access and revenue cycle environment.

This is a fixed term role (18 to 24 months). At the conclusion of the assignment, the role will either end as planned or be reviewed and revalidated based on implementation progress and business need.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee departmental processes and related activities, such as patient registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, third-party payer approvals, and inpatient admissions to support timely access and reduce financial risk.
• Manage implementation and optimization of Access and Financial Engagement workflows, ensuring alignment with revenue cycle, billing, reimbursement, and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with finance, clinical, operational, and executive leaders to support strategic initiatives, improve decision-making, and represent departmental needs across the organization.
• Collaborate with Epic and other operational teams to enhance system functionality, reporting, automation, and process efficiency.
• Monitor reimbursement, compliance, operational risks, and performance trends; develop solutions and communicate recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.
• Establish and track key performance indicators, productivity standards, and management reports to improve service, staffing, accountability, and operational performance.
• Foster a culture of customer service, collaboration, continuous improvement, and staff development while leading quality initiatives and resolving complex escalated patient issues.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of healthcare operations, patient access, and revenue cycle functions, including applicable state, federal, payer, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong understanding of third-party payer guidelines, authorization processes, reimbursement practices, and revenue protection strategies.
• Proficiency with Epic and other healthcare information systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization as well as with patients and caregivers.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex issues, identify risks, and develop practical solutions.
• Proven ability to support change, improve processes, and partner with leaders across departments in a highly matrixed environment.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution, maintain attention to detail, and make sound independent decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, customer service orientation, and commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace.

Minimum Job Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Healthcare or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
• 6 years of experience in a healthcare setting required.
• 5 years of workflow oversite experience in areas such as patient access, revenue cycle, authorization, denials, call center or related access/financial engagement functions required.
• 10 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Oncology experience preferred.

• Direct patient contact as needed, adult and pediatric populations.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
