Cardiovascular Genetic Counseling Supervisor

Job Description Involves the determination of risk factors for hereditary diseases and disorders in patients. Provides information to other healthcare providers or to individuals and families concerned with the risk of inherited conditions. Advises individuals and families to support informed decision making and coping methods for those at risk. Conducts research related to genetic conditions or genetic counseling. Supervises Genetic Counselors responsible for patient evaluation, genetic testing, and patient counseling. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and to manage the complex workflow and competing priorities involved with providing quality care as a genetic counselor Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment Solid organizational and customer service skills to structure unit operations and lead assigned staff in an efficient and effective manner Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively, coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization Solid verbal and written communication skills to explain technical genetic concepts and communicate sensitive information to patients and families Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of relevant medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document staff issues and performance, and to participate in decision‑making on human resources matters Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software Solid knowledge of organization's genetic counseling application programs to troubleshoot issues and recommend improvements in convenience and efficiency 1 year supervisory or managerial experience Education, Licenses And Certifications Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training Masters' Degree in clinical genetic counseling Minimum of 3 years of recent experience in Cardiovascular genetic counseling Current California Genetic Counseling License Board certified by American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics About Us The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate‑level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
