• Lovelace Medical Center (LMC), in the heart of Albuquerque, is an acute care hospital providing comprehensive care, including around-the-clock emergency care, surgical services, non-invasive robotic spine surgery, stroke care, radiology, and oncology services. LMC recently acquired New Mexico’s first Intuitive da Vinci 5 ® surgical system, demonstrating its commitment to the most advanced technology available in minimally invasive surgery. LMC has 263 licensed beds.

Responsibilities

• Provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surg eon be more efficient in the operating room with optimal results for the patient.
• In addition to intraoperative duties, the S urgical First A ssistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to bette r facilitate efficiency in the operating room (pre-op set up and post-op breakdown of the operating room) .
• Demonstrates expert knowledge of sterile technique , instrumentation, equipment, and sterile field setup , inclu ding sterilization methods and verification .
• The S urgical First A ssistant performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations.
• Certification from a recognized First Assistant Program is required

Qualifications

Job Requirements :

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology pro gram and c ompletion of a recognized S urgical First Assistant program .
• Anatomy and Physiology, sterile technique, medical terminology; instrumentation and medical equipment knowledge.
• Sterilization techniques; Operating Room instruments and supplies.
• Two years OR Scrub Technician experience.
• Certified Surgical Technician, Certified Surgical First Assistant Certification (CSFA)
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care
