Computer Technician Positions
The Kodiak Island Borough School District is accepting applications for a Computer Technician for the 2026-2027 school year. Positions available include Computer Technician I-IV. Locations are district wide in Kodiak, AK. Hours are 8 hrs/day, 5 days/week, 11 months. Salaries vary by position:
- Computer Technician I: Entry Range 16.5, Step 1: $23.91 per/hr
- Computer Technician II: Entry Range 18, Step 1: $25.24 per/hr
- Computer Technician III: Entry Range 20, Step 1: $26.97 per/hr
- Computer Technician IV: Entry Range 22, Step 1: $28.81 per/hr
Position summaries, qualifications, and responsibilities for each level are as follows:
Computer Technician I
Position Summary: The Computer Technician I, under direction of the Technology Supervisor or designee, is involved in computer maintenance and associated limited area network activities. Work is usually performed under immediate supervision although work assignments that are repetitive in nature, once learned, can be carried out without difficulty under only general supervision. Assignments include software installation or parts replacement and occasional operating system troubleshooting.
Qualifications: Must possess a general computer and networking background. Must be able to assist in the maintenance and repair of computers and related equipment and able to perform tasks independently, follow oral and written direction, learn operating policies and procedures, comprehend written material and interpret and apply rules and instructions. Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work. Must possess the potential and initiative to upgrade computer maintenance skills through on-the-job training or by other means. Capable of performing all work in a neat and professional manner. Must possess a valid State of Alaska motor vehicle operator's license with no insurance restrictions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information. High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
Responsibilities: Perform tasks requiring general or specialized computer skills or techniques requiring some decision making, and the ability to work independently as required. Able to install operating system software specifically modified to the location and use of the system. Safely load and unload heavy materials and equipment; move or aid in moving heavy boxes or equipment. Assist in wire installation and termination in local and remote sites. Perform maintenance tasks within own specialty area, or as assigned. Perform hard drive formats and reinstallation of operating system software. Assist and perform computer maintenance tasks as directed under general supervision. Perform maintenance duties within scope of position at village school locations as assigned. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business materials and information. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Computer Technician II
Position Summary: The Computer Technician II, under direction of the Director of Information Technology or designee, is a position of skilled computer work experience and some technical ability involved in Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks and associated service activities. These are performed in a wide variety of computer maintenance and enhancement duties combining several skills and knowledge areas. Work is usually performed with minimal supervision. Assignments frequently involve the use of specialized software and equipment.
Qualifications: Must possess a general computer or networking background with a high skill level in a troubleshooting software and hardware issues. Must be able to follow oral and written directions, learn operating procedures and policies, comprehend written material and interpret and apply rules and instructions, establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work, function independently when required, convey information orally or in writing. Have a working knowledge of all software utilized by the district. Capable of performing all work in a neat and professional manner. Must possess the potential and initiative to upgrade personal computer skills. Must possess a valid State of Alaska motor vehicle operator's license with no insurance restrictions. Must possess an A+ certificate or equivalent. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information. High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
Responsibilities: Perform jobs requiring general plus specialized skills and experience in several information technology areas. Perform installation of operating system software in specialized configurations and custom installations of all district-use specialized software. Assist in or perform computer maintenance including servers and special use systems. Perform Local Area Network troubleshooting and repair as directed. Configure laboratory environments for optimal performance with specialized software packages. Assist in equipment and software research and selection for district needs. Assist or perform specialized equipment configuration and maintenance. Ability to make general estimates of material needs. Perform maintenance duties within scope of position at village school locations as assigned with little supervision. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business materials and information. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Computer Technician III
Position Summary: The Computer Technician III, under the direction of the Director of Information Technology or designee, is an experienced position of skilled technical ability and supervisory work. Work performance covers a variety of skilled repair and network related tasks. Assignments frequently involve the use of standard and specialized software and tools as well as sophisticated testing equipment. Responsibilities extend to supervision and training of lower level maintenance personnel in the execution of assigned duties.
Qualifications: Must possess an advanced computer and LAN technology knowledge. Must have the ability to competently and professionally construct, maintain, repair and improve computers, networks or related systems and equipment. Must have a working knowledge of the all software and hardware utilized by the school district with special emphasis on common applications and system architectures. Must have ability to interpret and follow troubleshooting documentation from all vendors and equipment manufactures. Must be able to follow oral and written directions, learn operating policies and procedures, comprehend written material and interpret and apply rules and instructions, establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work, function with a moderate level of independence, convey information orally or in writing, and instruct and supervise subordinates as directed. Must be capable of performing all work in a neat and professional manner with the initiative and potential to continue to upgrade personal information technology skills. Must possess a valid State of Alaska motor vehicle operator's license with no insurance restrictions. Must possess an A+ and a MCSE certificate or equivalent. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information. High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents.
Responsibilities: Perform assignments and independent operations requiring specialized skills and experience in several of the information technology areas and provide supervision and instruction to lower level personnel in the performance of these duties. Perform and/or provide supervision for computer maintenance, Local and Wide Area Network maintenance and repair, improvements, or construction requiring general to specialized technical skills. Perform setup and maintenance of servers and all other specialized equipment. Assist or initiate LAN and WAN planning, upgrades, and maintenance. Oversee configuration of laboratory environments. Organize and negotiate purchasing for schools through district vendors under the supervision of the network coordinator. Supervise or assist in special equipment configurations and maintenance. Perform maintenance and supervisory duties within scope of position at village school locations as assigned. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business materials and information. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Computer Technician IV
Position Summary: The Computer Technician IV, under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, is an experienced position of skilled technical ability and supervisory status over both subordinate technical services personnel. Work performance involves the most complex tasks in computer repair, and installation of software and hardware including servers, network hardware and software and all other specialty equipment. This position frequently involves supervision and training of subordinates during the normal course of job assignments. Assignments frequently involve the use of standard and specialized software and tools as well as sophisticated testing equipment.
Qualifications: Must possess an expert level of knowledge in the information technology field with a background in networking, hardware and cross-platform interconnectivity. Must have the ability to competently and professionally construct, maintain, repair and improve computers, networks or related systems and equipment. Must have advanced knowledge of the software and hardware utilized by the school district with special emphasis on common applications and system architectures. Must be able to follow oral and written directions, learn and promote operating policies and procedures, comprehend written material and interpret and apply rules and instructions, establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work, function with a high level of independence, convey information orally or in writing, make accurate mathematical computations and instruct and supervise subordinates as directed. Must be capable of performing all work in a neat and professional manner with the initiative and potential to continue to upgrade personal information technology skills.
