Description: The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The RN creates a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. Key Responsibilities: Performs and documents a comprehensive assessment in accordance with RN scope of practice and policies. Considers the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Coordinates the initiation of the patient database. Identifies patient risk factors and presenting complaints. Obtains patient health information from family or others as necessary. Collects objective and subjective data. Develops a problem list, prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team. Determines desired outcomes in coordination with the patient and family. Fully implements patient care therapies and procedures within scope of practice. Communicates changes in patient condition appropriately. Conducts and documents ongoing comprehensive assessments and responses to therapies. Revises and coordinates the plan of care based on patient and family responses. Mentors other staff members and nursing students. Acts as a role model and resource to others in a clinical role. Promotes a positive group dynamic and healing environment through words and actions. Participates in department and unit quality improvement activities. Uses a holistic perspective regarding patient care. Demonstrates critical thinking and creativity in handling patient issues. Attends all required safety training programs and describes responsibilities related to safety. Displays compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy towards others.
