Chief of Staff

The New York City Mayor's Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight in making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and working to make New York City's economy stronger. The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services is responsible for ensuring that agencies that oversee the City's social services programming are run compassionately, equitably and effectively, and that the City's public health and healthcare delivery systems are delivering results for all New Yorkers.

The Chief of Staff will collaborate closely with agencies and Mayor's Office units to implement strategic initiatives that optimize operations and drive efficiency across the Deputy Mayor's portfolio. This individual is a trusted advisor to the Deputy Mayor and supports executive decision-making by using relevant data to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness. The Chief of Staff represents the Deputy Mayor and other key executives across the Administration in delegated projects and initiatives designed to achieve the agency's priorities and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree in public health, public administration, public policy, social work, economics, business, law or related fields, and at least 2 years of related work experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college, and at least 5 years of related experience. Excellent communication, writing, research, analytical and organizational skills, with ability to rapidly experience working in government; prior experience with administrative and procurement processes preferred. Business operations, process design, and project management experience. Ability to operate independently with excellent time management skills and confirmed ability to deliver on multiple, competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Ability to effectively interact with people and partners across all levels within an organization. Proven ability to follow through on complex projects from ideas to implementation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and compelling presentations for an array of audiences.

Residency Requirement: New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
