Inspector

DCWP is hiring for an Inspector (Consumer and Worker) position (job code 33997). This role may be provisional or through the 55a program and is eligible for a compressed schedule under the Remote Work Pilot Program. INSPECTOR (CONSUMER AND WORKER - 33997) Responsibilities Conduct field enforcement, undercover inspections and participate in multi‑agency enforcement actions. Enforce laws and regulations relating to weights and measures through testing, sealing, condemning or confiscating weighing and measuring devices (may include petroleum products). Inspect and investigate trade practices to detect and eliminate consumer deception; inspect all categories of trades and occupations licensed by Consumer and Worker Protection. Lifting weights, walking, using mass transit, and climbing stairs. Complete reports on complaints investigated, violations identified and special inspections using tablets, computers, and/or written documents. Prepare summonses and testify at hearings. Utilize computer systems for email correspondences, uploading and saving evidence, and researching and assigning tasks from agency web‑based system and tablet operating system. Communicate clearly and concisely both written and verbally. Perform administrative duties such as copying and scanning. Maintain a professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills. Perform other related work. Minimum Qualifications A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of full‑time satisfactory experience conducting investigations or inspections for a consumer or worker protection agency; or A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience, which is equivalent to requirement 1. College education may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of 30 semester credits for each year of required experience. All candidates must have a four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent. License Requirement: Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment. Preferred Skills Same as Minimum Qualifications but with 60 semester credits required for each year of experience. License Requirement: Valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in New York State at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55‑a Program.
