Position Summary The Senior Museum Operations Coordinator supports the Texas Military Department’s museum administration, operations, collections, exhibits, and programs. The role involves managing Saturday museum operations, assisting curatorial and administrative functions that ensure positive visitor experiences and collection stewardship, and helping to design, construct, install, and maintain museum exhibits. The coordinator reports to the Museum Director and works with limited supervision. Work Hours Tues‑Sunday and Saturday, 8‑hour days, 40 hours per week. The position may require work on holidays, and the employee may be called upon to perform duties in support of national emergencies or disasters. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Serve as the primary on‑site manager of museum operations during Saturday hours and assigned holidays. Assist with coordinating the acquisition, storage, and exhibition of collections and related materials. Assist with deeds of gift, object intake, and correspondence with lenders and donors to support timely processing and stewardship. Support the curator and museum director with research inquiries. Schedule use of museum spaces for internal and external activities. Draft or respond to correspondence related to donors, lenders, and program partners. Provide technical assistance on object handling, exhibit preparation, and collection management. Assist with school tours, educational programming, and special events. Ensure exhibit areas and visitor spaces are safe, clean, accessible, and engaging. Oversee building readiness, exhibit functionality, visitor experience, and emergency procedures during assigned shifts. Coordinate with staff, volunteers, and any rental or tour groups using museum spaces. Assist the exhibit curator with the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of a variety of exhibits, artifacts, and displays. Conduct historical research in response to visitor or academic inquiries to assist collections and exhibit staff. Maintain records of exhibits, artifacts, and display changes. Perform related work as assigned. May work holidays. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies and procedures handbook. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, or other missions, including holidays and weekends. Qualifications Education – Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required. Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in museology, art, or a related field is preferred. Experience – Three (3) years of experience in general museum operations, collection management, and exhibit work. Experience using Past Perfect curatorial database and Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required. Substitution – Sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university with coursework in museum science, history, exhibit production, or a closely related field, or successful completion of a multi‑semester paid internship at the Texas Military Forces Museum may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience. Registration, Certification, or Licensure – Valid driver’s license is required. The ability to obtain a Texas Driver’s License within the first 30 days of employment and a satisfactory driving record are required for driving state or federal vehicles to conduct agency business. Preferred Credentials – Diploma or certification in Construction Exhibits from a technical college or program is preferred. Portfolio Requirement – Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of exhibit work. Background Investigation – Selected candidates must pass a federal security background investigation, including a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting.
