HOURS: 6.5 Hours Per Day (9:10am - 4:10pm) (5.5 hrs - SpEd Asst, 1 hr - Program Asst) CALENDAR: 190 Days Per Year (will be prorated based on start date) SALARY: $20.67 - $28.61 Per Hour (Range D) BENEFITS: PERS, Medical, Dental, Vision, Optional Insurances, Paid Leaves, Holiday Pay, etc. START DATE: August 18, 2026, or when filled APPLICATION DEADLINE: Open until filled JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT(S): The job of Educational Assistant is to assist a certificated teacher in the planning and implementation of instructional programs for students. Employees in this job group perform paraprofessional duties in settings where special instructional programs and teaching techniques are used to address moderate to severe learning and physical disabilities; special social/behavioral, cultural, & language needs; or instruction in academic, technical, vocational, or talented and gifted programs. These duties can be accomplished through one‑on‑one and small group instruction and tutoring; may also include support in testing and various clerical duties. Some positions require aptitude and skill in working with particular disability or learning needs. Some positions may relate to federal NCLB paraprofessional requirements. Methods of performing tasks are usually left to the judgment of the employee, with a supervisor offering occasional instruction, advice, or direction; work is reviewed periodically while in progress and upon completion. The Program Assistant monitors student behavior during playground, cafeteria, detention‑time‑out, or street‑crossing activities and performs a variety of general clerical duties in support of instructional activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist in the planning and implementing of learning experiences for students enrolled in the program. Confer with teacher(s) to provide feedback on student performance in tutorial and testing activities. Interpret Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related instructional plans within guidelines set by the certificated teacher. Instruct students in small group and one‑on‑one settings. Revise lesson plans or teaching strategies during instructional activity as necessary to achieve IEP goals and objectives. Conduct student testing using prescribed test batteries upon receiving necessary training; correct tests and record scores; and inform teacher of any unusual academic or disciplinary problems. Help students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults. Promote safety of the students by helping them develop self‑confidence. Interpret and implement a behavior management program; train and assist students in behavior management. Provide education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions; respond to discipline problems; act as a role model.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Attend in‑service and workshop training related to the area of assignment and apply training to instructional responsibilities. Perform a variety of general clerical duties, including writing attendance reports, grading papers, and maintaining accurate files. Assist, as requested, in communication between students, teachers, and parents. Perform basic first aid, make initial assessment of medical emergencies, and summon appropriate medical response. Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Perform related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS

Experience Preferred: Prior job related experience working with students of special needs; some experience in child supervision desirable. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: General skills in all Educational Assistant positions in English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Skill in working with other adults and students with varying skill levels, monitoring activities and behavior and constructively intervening to stop unsafe or unruly behavior. Monitor student educational progress and advise teacher(s) of progress or perceived deficiencies. Patient, effective work with students, including those with behavioral problems or mild learning disabilities. Clear oral and written communication. General knowledge of modern office methods, practices, procedures, equipment, computer hardware and software, and specific assignment requisites. Instructional principles, practices and techniques related to the area of assignment. Basic child care techniques, first aid and safety requirements. Special education knowledge: Provisions of PL 94-142 and related provisions. Proper childcare and classroom management techniques in settings involving moderate to severe learning, physical disabilities, and behavioral problems. General Abilities: Work effectively in a physically and emotionally fatiguing environment. Provide empathetic support to students with learning and/or physical disabilities. Learn growth and development principles of students with special needs. Basic first aid and safety. Team collaboration. Typing at speed necessary for job performance. Physical job tasks. Clear oral and written communication. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all involved. Special Education‑Related Abilities: Deliver instructional programs to students with moderate to severe learning and physical disabilities and/or social/behavioral problems. Work with students who may exhibit aggressive assault behavior, as required of specific job assignment. Handle students requiring basic feeding and hygiene needs, as required. Understand and interpret IEPs and work independently in the absence of direct teacher contact to carry out IEP goals and objectives. Ability to learn and apply techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management. Team work. Apply prescribed instructional program in small/large group and one‑on‑one tutoring settings. Typing at required speed. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Learn and apply basic instructional principles within the assignment area. Work effectively and collaboratively with others. Build rapport with students and employees. Make independent decisions. Ability to speak a second language preferred. Education Required: Must meet one of the following options: Completed two years of college; Hold a two‑year degree; Hold a state or local “No Child Left Behind” certification. Licenses, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (applicant assumes cost upon offer). Possession of, or ability to obtain, a first aid and CPR card.
