Shift Details Work Shift: Night (United States of America) Position Type: Full-time / Night / NICU required Overview The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multi-problem situations, primarily in critical-care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making and self-direction. In addition to patient care, the RT II provides education to patients, families, staff development, and engages in professional and self-development activities. Responsibilities Service customer: completion of patient care, documentation and education; team approach to service; promote team spirit and positive work environment; provide supportive environment for students and staff. Administer quality patient care: perform patient assessment and therapy assessment; collaborate with health-care team; verify orders and administer aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen & medical gas therapy; ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation; airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care); arterial blood gas sampling & analysis; educate patient and mentor new employees, students and peers; assist with invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Provide safe & quality environment: promote accurate electronic orders, charting and charging; promote patient safety initiatives; promote performance improvement; promote evidence-based practice; review revised and new DPPs. Perform other duties as assigned; comply with WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science. Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Experience 0-2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Skills Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health-care professionals. Proficiency with computer systems and databases. Strong customer-relations, assessment, and communication skills.
