Design Engineer

With more than 11,000 employees, HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we've designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. The largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we're simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades.

The Role:

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Must Have:

• High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of experience -or-
• Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 6 years experience

Nice to Have:

• Prior knowledge of Planning Yard processes and procedures.
• Must possess a full understanding of Mechanical Design (HVAC in particular) systems to assist with PSA work spec development IAW 4E specifications.
