About the Position

Location: Grand Island, Nebraska
Position Type: Contract | Medical Director

We are seeking an experienced EMS Medical Director to provide physician leadership and medical oversight for a progressive municipal Fire & EMS system serving the Grand Island Fire Department in Nebraska. This leadership opportunity is ideal for an Emergency Medicine physician with experience in pre-hospital EMS, protocol development, quality improvement, and EMS education.

Responsibilities

Provide online and offline medical direction for Fire & EMS personnel.
Develop, review, and update EMS treatment protocols.
Lead Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) initiatives.
Oversee EMT and Paramedic education, training, and competency evaluations.
Participate in policy development, case reviews, and medical audits.
Perform fit-for-duty evaluations in accordance with NFPA 1582.
Provide medical oversight for safety, wellness, fitness, and infection control programs.
Collaborate closely with Fire Department leadership to ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

MD or DO
Active Nebraska medical license or eligibility to obtain one.
Emergency Medicine experience required.
Previous EMS Medical Director or EMS medical oversight experience strongly preferred.
Experience with EMS protocol development, QA/QI, and EMS education.
Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/AOBEM preferred).
