Director of AI

Applied Value’s mission is unchanged: advise clients on their most important decisions and provide the hands-on support to act on them. AI is reshaping how consulting gets done, but paired with human judgment it is a force multiplier, not a replacement. The consulting firms that win the next decade will supercharge their strategy and delivery with AI. As organizations run leaner, demand grows for operator-led teams that can land, diagnose, build, and hand back a working solution on the latest technology.

The Director of AI owns how AV uses AI across its consulting business, inside the firm and with clients. Internally, you set the firm’s AI strategy and lead the teams that execute it: getting partners and consultants fluent enough to use AI well, making it part of how every team delivers, and turning the strongest team-built prototypes into tools the whole firm can use. With clients, you are AV’s senior AI voice in the room. You advise on where AI fits, help deploy the solutions AV builds, and own how those tools are managed once they are live: integration with client systems, ongoing maintenance, and support as their needs evolve.

This is a hands-on role. You do not need to be the strongest engineer in the room, but you should be fluent enough with AI tooling to work with code directly, spec a tool, hold a high bar on what gets built, and tell a builder when something is wrong. That credibility has to land in three directions: partners need to want to work with you, builders need to take you seriously, and clients need to trust your technical judgment.

Key responsibilities

• Own the AI transformation roadmap. Drive execution across how the firm sells, delivers, and runs itself, with clear cadences, milestones, and partner-level reporting.
• Run the partner coaching cadence. Meet one-on-one with partners on where AI applies, which cases to push, and how to bring AI into client conversations.
• Build and run the training curriculum by level. Partners, senior consultants, consultants, analysts, and internal ops each get a tailored fluency track.
• Run the show-and-tell rhythm. Spread skills, tools, and learnings across teams so work does not stay siloed.
• Coordinate across teams to prevent duplicate effort, surface reuse, and match builders with the domain experts who own the methodology.
• Drive adoption. Make AI use the default expectation rather than an opt-in, through visible wins and partner sponsorship.
• Produce the artifacts that keep the firm aligned: monthly partner readouts, quarterly strategy refreshes, and a shared view of priorities and dependencies across the program.
• Hold the build bar high. Direct the builders you work with, enforce shared-stack and quality standards, and decide when a tool is ready to move from a prototype into something the firm maintains and reuses.
• Act as AV’s senior AI advisor to clients. Sit with client leadership, advise on where AI fits their problems, and help deploy the solutions AV builds.
• Own client‑facing tools end to end. Decide how they are built, secured, and integrated with client systems and IT, and stand up the support and maintenance model that keeps them running after launch.

What we’re looking for

• 10+ years in consulting, operating, or program leadership, with a track record of driving change inside professional services or operating organizations.
• Experience building training curricula, running coaching cadences, and changing how people work in a partner‑led or expert‑led environment.
• Hands‑on with the current AI stack. You have built or directed builds using agents, RAG, evals, and tool use. You can read the code, spec the work, and spot a bug when you see one. The role needs credibility with both partners and builders.
• Sound judgment on when to push, when to coach, and when to elevate. Comfortable challenging partners without losing their trust.
• Strong writing. You can produce executive‑ready readouts, decision documents, and strategy artifacts.

Nice to have

• Prior experience as a chief of staff, transformation lead, or PMO leader at a consulting or professional services firm.
• A track record of shipped AI work, such as prototypes, internal tools, or products, with recent and hands‑on experience weighted most heavily.

You are the single accountable owner for a firm‑wide AI transformation at a firm that is ready to move.

You have direct partner sponsorship and the mandate to set how AV does AI.

Your work changes how every consultant, partner, and operator at AV uses AI.
