AMA Certified Medical Assistant - Neurosurgery

This full-time, day-shift role offers the opportunity to work closely with licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers to deliver outstanding patient care.
General Summary
The Medical Assistant operates within their scope of practice to assist with patient care as delegated by clinical staff. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent customer service and critical thinking skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling.
- Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, and verifying medications and medical histories.
- Document patient information accurately and promptly in medical records.
- Manage phone communications, including routing messages and assisting with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups.
- Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
- Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed by providers.
- Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals in a timely manner.
- Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
- Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment.
- Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards.
Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.
Experience
At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred but not required. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.
Certification and Licenses
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is common. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
