About This Opportunity

Anchor Innovation is hiring two experienced maritime professionals to support U.S. Navy small unmanned surface vessel (sUSV) operations, training, maintenance, and Fleet integration activities in San Diego.

A current USCG 25, 50 or 100-Ton Master license is required for this position.

Beyond the license, candidates must bring demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas:

• Maritime maintenance / mechanical / electrical systems 
• Formal military instruction, including Instructor Training Course (ITC) or equivalent instructor qualification 
• Afloat Training Group (ATG) trainer or assessor 
• Training and Evaluation Unit (TEU) instructor or evaluator 

Candidates do not need experience in every area. We are intentionally looking for complementary skill sets across the two positions

We anticipate one position may lean more heavily toward maintenance/technical support and the other toward training/evaluation, although candidates capable of supporting both are particularly attractive. 

Direct unmanned systems experience is not required . We are more interested in strong maritime fundamentals, technical aptitude, judgment, and the ability to learn emerging systems.

What You'll Do

Depending on background and mission requirements, responsibilities may include:

• Support sUSV operations and Fleet integration activities 
• Operate crewed support craft during maritime operations and training 
• Support launch, recovery, towing, escort, and waterfront operations 
• Support vessel preparation and operational readiness 
• Conduct pre-operational inspections and safety checks 
• Support sUSV training and qualification activities 
• Provide classroom, pier-side, and underway instruction 
• Train Sailors and other personnel on maritime operations, equipment, procedures, and safety 
• Support development and refinement of training materials, procedures, and qualification standards 
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance 
• Troubleshoot marine mechanical and electrical systems 
• Support outboard/inboard engine maintenance and repair, as applicable 
• Diagnose vessel, electrical, auxiliary, and supporting equipment issues 
• Support installation, integration, and testing of equipment aboard maritime platforms 
• Assist with vessel configuration, equipment setup, and mission preparation 
• Support operational test events, demonstrations, exercises, and customer requirements 
• Document maintenance, operational, and training activities 
• Identify equipment, parts, material, and readiness requirements 
• Work directly with Navy operators, maintainers, program personnel, engineers, OEMs, and other contractors 
• Support CONUS travel and temporary operations at other locations as required

• MESF / MSRON / CRF / RIVRON 
• Naval Special Warfare maritime support 
• Coast Guard boat operations 
• Navy EN, EM, MM, ET, BM, or similar technical/operational ratings 
• Coast Guard MK, BM, EM, ET, or similar specialties 
• Small boat mechanic 
• Marine mechanic 
• Marine electrician 
• Commercial vessel operator 
• Maritime instructor 
• Coxswain / Boat Captain 
• Waterfront operations 
• Maritime test and evaluation 
• Field Service Representative supporting maritime systems 
• Vessel maintenance and sustainment 
• Expeditionary maritime operations 

Equivalent commercial maritime experience is also encouraged.

What Matters Most

We are looking for people who are comfortable around boats, on boats, and responsible for boats .

A license by itself is not enough.

The strongest candidates will combine professional vessel-operating experience with a demonstrated ability to contribute beyond simply operating the craft.

For a maintenance-oriented candidate , that may mean:

• Troubleshooting engines, electrical systems, steering, fuel systems, or auxiliary equipment 
• Performing preventive and corrective maintenance 
• Understanding vessel readiness and identifying problems before getting underway 
• Working from technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures 
• Learning unfamiliar equipment and systems 

For a training/operations -oriented candidate , that may mean:

• Significant small-craft operating experience 
• Training and evaluating boat crews 
• Teaching navigation, seamanship, rules of the road, safety, or operational procedures 
• Developing or improving training and qualification processes 
• Managing risk during underway operations 
• Providing professional judgment during dynamic maritime events 

For either background, we want someone who can operate independently, represent Anchor professionally, and become a trusted member of the customer's team.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen 
• Current USCG Master credential, 25 GRT or greater  
• Active DoD Secret clearance  
• Demonstrated professional small-craft or maritime operating experience 
• Strong understanding of maritime safety, seamanship, and vessel operations 
• Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following:  
• Maritime maintenance / mechanical / electrical systems 
• Formal military instruction / instructor qualification 
• ATG training or assessment 
• TEU training or evaluation 
• Ability to safely operate and work aboard small craft 
• Ability to work in waterfront, pier-side, and underway environments 
• Ability to work extended operational days as mission requirements dictate 
• Valid driver's license 
• Ability to obtain and maintain required military installation/base access 
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision 
• Strong communication and teamwork skills 
• Ability to support CONUS travel as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard experience 
• MESF, MSRON, CRF, RIVRON, NSW, or other expeditionary maritime experience 
• Navy or Coast Guard coxswain/boat captain experience 
• Maritime instructor or evaluator experience 
• Formal military instructor experience 
• Small-craft maintenance experience 
• Outboard and/or diesel engine maintenance 
• Marine electrical troubleshooting 
• Vessel rigging and equipment installation 
• Preventive and corrective maintenance experience 
• Launch/recovery and trailering experience

Work Environment

This is an operational maritime position , not a traditional office job.

Candidates should expect significant time at the waterfront and aboard small craft supporting training, testing, maintenance, and operational events.

Some days may involve underway operations. Others may involve maintenance, equipment preparation, training, troubleshooting, mission planning, or supporting a customer event.

Because sUSV capabilities continue to evolve, successful candidates must also be comfortable working in an environment where procedures and systems are still developing.

We need people who can operate safely, recognize problems, adapt, and contribute wherever their experience is most useful.

Compensation

$85,000 - $110,000 annually , depending on qualifications, experience, credentials, and technical background.
