POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT We are seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Counsel to join our Legal team and serve as the primary legal advisor on labor and employment matters across the organization. This attorney will lead the company’s approach to employment and labor law compliance, workplace risk management, labor strategy, employment‑related policies and practices, and associated legal matters. This role will work in close partnership with Human Resources, including HR Compliance, and will collaborate regularly with business leaders and external counsel. The ideal candidate brings deep management‑side labor and employment law expertise, strong business judgment, and a practical, solutions‑oriented approach. This attorney will be expected to serve as a trusted advisor who can provide day‑to‑day counseling on HR related issues, provide internal training to Human Resources on key areas of employment law and best practices, develop proactive legal and labor relations strategy, manage complex matters, and help strengthen the organization’s overall employment and labor posture. This is a highly collaborative role for an attorney who can operate effectively at both the strategic and tactical levels and who is comfortable partnering across functions to support business objectives while managing legal risk. Serve as the primary legal advisor on all labor and employment matters affecting the organization Provide practical, timely, and business‑focused legal counsel on a broad range of employment law issues, including employee relations, workplace policies and practices, performance management and discipline, hiring and terminations, reductions in force and reorganisations, wage and hour compliance, leave and accommodation matters, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation issues, investigations, and other workplace risk matters Advise on labor relations matters, including union‑related strategy, collective bargaining issues, grievances, labor disputes, and unfair labor practice matters Develop proactive labor strategies and provide guidance on employee relations approaches designed to support a positive union‑free environment, consistent with applicable law Partner closely with Human Resources and HR Compliance to ensure employment practices, policies and procedures are legally compliant, operationally sound, and aligned with business needs Conduct or oversee internal investigations involving employee complaints, workplace misconduct, and other sensitive employment matters, and advise on appropriate remediation Support and oversee responses to administrative charges, demand letters, litigation, arbitrations, and agency matters, including matters before the EEOC, DOL, NLRB, and applicable state or local agencies Manage outside counsel on employment and labor matters, including litigation, administrative proceedings, and specialised advisory matters, with an emphasis on strong outcomes and cost‑effective case management Review, draft, and advise on employment‑related policies, agreements, investigation materials, training content, and other workplace‑related documentation Design and deliver training for HR professionals, managers, and business leaders on labor and employment law topics, legal risk, and best practices Monitor developments in federal, state, and local labor and employment laws and translate those developments into actionable guidance for the organization Partner cross‑functionally with Legal, Human Resources, Compliance and business leadership to identify risk, support sound decision‑making, and strengthen the organisation’s employment and labor practices Education And Work Experience Juris Doctor from an accredited law school Active membership in good standing in at least one state bar Significant experience practising management‑side labour and employment law Experience with a national management‑side labour and employment law firm strongly preferred Demonstrated experience advising employers on both employment counselling and labour relations matters Demonstrated management‑side labour relations experience, including advising on union‑related matters, labour strategy, and proactive employee relations approaches designed to support a positive union‑free environment, consistent with applicable law Strong knowledge of applicable federal and state labour and employment laws, including those relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, leave, accommodations, and labour relations Experience managing employment litigation, administrative charges, investigations, and other labour and employment matters in partnership with external counsel Proven ability to assess legal and reputational risk, provide practical legal advice, and influence business decisions in a collaborative and credible manner Experience partnering closely with Human Resources and training leaders on workplace law, compliance and risk prevention Excellent legal judgement, communication and relationship‑management skills Strong drafting, analytical, organisational and project‑management abilities Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with discretion, professionalism and sound judgement Experience in an in‑house legal department supporting a multi‑state employer Experience advising on labour strategy, union campaigns, collective bargaining issues, grievance matters and unfair labour practice claims Experience developing and delivering training for HR teams, managers and business leaders Experience supporting organisations with complex employee relations environments across multiple jurisdictions Experience supporting employers in the construction or energy industry preferred Bring deep substantive expertise in labour and employment law Serve as the organisation’s lead legal advisor for labour and employment matters Operate as a trusted partner to HR, HR Compliance and business leaders Provide practical, business‑oriented legal advice that balances risk and operational realities Proactively identify issues before they escape into claims, disputes or broader organisational risk Work effectively with external counsel while maintaining strong internal ownership of strategy and outcomes Help strengthen the
