Program Director of Non-Profit Leadership and Community Partnerships

Department: Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education Position Summary Directs an ongoing university program to ensure that prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with its mission and/or specified objectives. Prepares short- and long term goals and objectives. Key Responsibilities Plans, develops and administers methods, strategies and procedures for meeting program objectives; directs and oversees the daily activities of staff members. Prepares and monitors the annual budget and ensures that expenditures are within budget allocation. Directs and coordinates personally, or through subordinate personnel, activities concerned with carrying out the objectives of the program. Directs the preparation of and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives; modifies or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and attains objectives. Analyzes trends within program areas, maintaining expert awareness of program information and change needs. Formulates, implements, and maintains appropriate policies and procedures concerning program administration. Manages and administers grant for program, including meetings, communication coordination, scholarships and other operations. May prepare or participate in the preparation of proposals to obtain grants from state and federal agencies, and private foundation sponsors. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Reporting to the Dean, the Director of Non-Profit Leadership and Community Partnerships contributes to the vision by developing, implementing, and overseeing unique opportunities that enhance learning for students (undergraduate and graduate) at the University of Houston from any degree program who are interested in earning the Certified Non-Profit Profession (CNP) credential through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) program. This is done in conjunction with faculty and staff from across the university as well as external partners throughout the greater Houston community and beyond. This position administers the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance program and represents the University locally, nationally, and globally to serve as a foundation for broader workforce development, experiential learning, employer engagement, and nonprofit innovation. Primary Responsibilities Serve as a visionary and collaborative member of the Dean’s Executive Team committed to advancing the strategic priorities of the GCSW and goals of the NLA. Hire and supervise the NLA Program Coordinator to ensure the quality execution of all day-to-day activities of the program. Hire and manage a Graduate Research Assistant that will support the work and activities of the NLA Office. Prepare, monitor, and manage annual program budget, including coordinating multiple funding streams and accounts. Provide grant oversight and ensure any grant/funding requirements are met by the program. Identify, cultivate, and solicit (through appropriate university channels) new donor partnerships. Provide stewardship and collaborative engagement to previous and current donor partners. Provide strategic leadership and direction for the NLA Advisory Board to advance program growth, community engagement, and workforce development. Ensure the effective management, accuracy, and integrity of program records and documentation. Ensure the effective execution, administration, and oversight of program related contracts and agreements, including compliance with established terms and requirements. Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures that support program effectiveness, operational excellence, and sustained success. Cultivate and maintain strategic engagement with the NLA Leadership Circle, leveraging its advisory role to advance program priorities, strengthen community partnerships, and support sustained program growth. Lead the ongoing assessment of program performance and outcomes, ensuring alignment with University priorities and the national NLA affiliation agreement, and oversee the preparation of annual reports for University leadership, funders, and community stakeholders. Represent the NLA to internal and external constituents, cultivating strategic relationships and partnerships that advance program visibility, engagement, and impact. Other duties as assigned. Student Success & Workforce Development Recruit, advise, mentor, and support students participating in the NLA. Develop leadership development programming that prepares students for careers in nonprofit management and community leadership. Expand workforce aligned learning opportunities, including internships, certifications, leadership academies, and professional development workshops. Coordinate career readiness programming including résumé reviews, interviewing, networking, and leadership skill development. Track student outcomes related to certification, employment, and leadership placement. Community & Employer Partnerships Build and sustain strategic partnerships with nonprofit organizations, foundations, corporations, government agencies, and community leaders. Expand internship, practicum, and employment opportunities for students. Collaborate with employers to identify emerging workforce needs and align educational programming accordingly. Develop community advisory partnerships that strengthen nonprofit leadership education. Academic & Faculty Collaboration Collaborate with faculty to integrate nonprofit leadership competencies into curriculum and experiential learning. Support interdisciplinary programming with other colleges across the University. Assist with assessment of student learning outcomes and program effectiveness. Alumni & External Engagement Develop a robust alumni network of nonprofit leaders. Coordinate alumni mentoring and networking opportunities. Organize annual nonprofit leadership events, speaker series, and recognition programs. Represent the College within local, state, and national nonprofit organizations. Innovation & Strategic Initiatives Identify emerging trends in nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, and social innovation. Develop new partnerships and grant opportunities supporting nonprofit workforce development. Collaborate on initiatives that strengthen civic engagement, community impact, and leadership development. Support strategic initiatives aligned with the College’s Charting Our Path to Excellence (COPE) strategic plan. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Relevant experience (minimum 5 years) in a combination of leadership roles in the nonprofit, social services, and public policy sectors. Direct supervisory experience. Experience working with nonprofit organizations/community organizations. Demonstrated fundraising/development experience, including grant writing and stewardship. Demonstrated experience in developing and coordinating community collaborations. Demonstrated experience in public affairs/communications/marketing. Ability to manage and work across multiple departments to ensure alignment with overall institutional goals. Strong and effective interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Experience working with college students in a teaching or advisory capacity. Strong knowledge of and familiarity with nonprofit/social services agencies. Additional Information MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
