Job Description:

Education/ Certification Mandatory:

• DHS Trusted Tester certification, version 5 or later. MUST ALREADY HOLD IT. Trusted Tester certification is not optional and cannot be gained after hire. The certificate number is checked with DHS before the offer is confirmed.
• IAAP CPACC certification. MUST ALREADY HOLD IT. Checked with IAAP before the offer is confirmed.
• Broad knowledge of the Revised Section 508 Standards. Must have.
• 2 years or more testing websites and web applications. Must have.
• 2 years or more testing and fixing electronic documents. Must have.
• 3 years or more supporting IT projects and IT purchases on accessibility. Must have.
• High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor degree preferred.

Work Experience Mandatory:

• 3 years or more advising IT projects and buying teams on accessibility at each stage of a project.
• 2 years or more testing web content, and 2 years or more testing and fixing documents.
• Has checked other testers' work for accuracy and completeness, and told them when it was wrong.
• Has advised on design standards, code libraries and accessibility testing tools.
• Has reviewed products going through a formal approval board and given a written accessibility position.
• Comfortable telling a senior customer something they did not want to hear, in writing.

Education/Certifications Nice To Have:

• IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) or Certified Professional in Accessible Built Environments.
• Bachelor degree in a computing, design or policy subject.

Work Experience Nice To Have:

• Has worked in or alongside a federal accessibility programme.
• Has supported market research or a purchase decision where accessibility risk was a factor.
• Has trained or mentored other testers.

References/Certificates/Diplomas Required:

• Resume.
• DHS Trusted Tester certificate number and version. Checked with DHS before the offer is confirmed.
• IAAP CPACC certificate number and expiry date. Checked with IAAP before the offer is confirmed.
• Degree certificate, if a degree is claimed.
• 2 work references, at least 1 a federal customer.
• A short written sample of accessibility advice you have given.

Roles And Responsibilities:

• Test websites and web applications for Section 508 conformance using the DHS Trusted Tester process, version 5 or later.
• Check the test results produced by the DHS in-house testers for accuracy and completeness, and write up anything that is wrong.
• Never review your own test. If you did the test, someone else checks it.
• Fix Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF documents and forms so they meet accessibility standards.
• Review vendor accessibility reports (ACRs and VPATs) and give DHS a written position on what is proved and what the risk is.
• Advise DHS project teams on accessibility from the start of a project, not after it is built.
• Give a written accessibility position on products going to the DHS approval boards, within 5 working days.
• Stand in for the DHS accessibility programme when asked. Advise. Never make a decision on the government's behalf and never speak for DHS to anyone outside it.
• Keep both certifications current for the whole time on the contract.
