Position Summary
The Behavior Technician (BT) provides direct, individualized behavioral services to individuals served by The Kennedy Collective diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities across clinic, home, school, community-based, and other assigned service settings. Under the direction and supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or other qualified clinical leadership, the Behavior Technician implements individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment plans, teaches functional communication, social, adaptive, and daily living skills, utilizes evidence-based behavioral interventions, collects and documents accurate treatment data, and provides ongoing feedback regarding individual progress. The Behavior Technician creates engaging, motivating, and supportive learning environments that promote skill acquisition, independence, positive behavior change, and an enhanced quality of life while ensuring services are delivered in accordance with ethical standards, Connecticut regulations, agency policies, and individualized treatment goals.

- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Implementation: Implements individualized treatment plans and behavior intervention strategies with fidelity under the supervision of a BCBA or qualified clinical leader, utilizing evidence-based ABA principles to promote meaningful skill acquisition and behavior change.
- Skill Acquisition & Behavior Support: Teaches communication, social, adaptive, self-help, play, and functional living skills while implementing proactive and reactive behavior support strategies that foster independence and positive outcomes.
- Data Collection & Clinical Documentation: Accurately collects behavioral and skill acquisition data, documents services provided, and communicates observations regarding individual progress to support clinical decision-making and treatment planning.
- Person-Centered Care & Family Collaboration: Provides individualized, compassionate, and culturally responsive services that respect the dignity, preferences, and goals of each individual while collaborating effectively with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Health, Safety & Therapeutic Environment: Maintains a safe, structured, and engaging therapeutic environment by following health and safety procedures, implementing crisis or behavior support plans as trained, and promoting the physical and emotional well-being of individuals served.
- Professionalism & Ethical Practice: Demonstrates integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and ethical decision-making while maintaining compliance with the BACB Ethics Code (as applicable), Connecticut regulations, payer requirements, and The Kennedy Collective's policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Behavior Technician Functions
- Provide direct one-to-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to individuals served in accordance with individualized treatment plans, promoting meaningful skill acquisition, independence, and improved quality of life.
- Implement individualized treatment plans, behavior intervention plans, teaching procedures, and skill acquisition programs developed by the supervising Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or qualified clinical leadership.
- Teach communication, social, adaptive, self-help, play, functional living, and other developmentally appropriate skills using evidence-based ABA strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.
- Utilize approved antecedent and behavior reduction strategies to promote positive behavior while responding appropriately to challenging behaviors using approved intervention techniques and agency protocols.
- Collect, record, and maintain accurate behavioral and skill acquisition data during each therapy session to support clinical decision-making and treatment planning.
- Complete timely, objective, and accurate clinical documentation, including therapy notes, session summaries, and required records within Therap and other designated electronic systems.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain therapy materials, equipment, and learning environments to support effective service delivery.
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living, communication, community participation, and other individualized supports as appropriate to the treatment plan and service setting.
- Monitor and communicate significant observations regarding individual progress, behavioral changes, health concerns, and treatment effectiveness to the supervising BCBA or clinical leadership.
- Provide services across clinic, home, school, community-based, and other assigned service settings while maintaining professionalism and therapeutic rapport.
Program and General Responsibilities
- Collaborate with BCBAs, clinicians, supervisors, families, guardians, educators, medical professionals, and other interdisciplinary team members to support individualized treatment goals and positive outcomes.
- Maintain professional, respectful, and timely communication with individuals served, families, coworkers, referral sources, and community partners while preserving confidentiality.
- Ensure compliance with all Kennedy Collective policies, Connecticut regulations, Medicaid and insurance requirements, BACB ethical standards (as applicable), HIPAA requirements, and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Maintain all required certifications, training, and qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position, including RBT certification (if applicable), CPR/First Aid, and other agency-required training.
- Protect the health, safety, dignity, privacy, and rights of individuals served by adhering to abuse and neglect reporting requirements, infection prevention practices, emergency procedures, and agency policies.
- Respond appropriately to behavioral, medical, and environmental emergencies using approved intervention strategies, crisis response procedures, and sound professional judgment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and engaging therapeutic environment that supports learning, participation, and successful treatment outcomes.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability, cultural competence, and ethical practice consistent with The Kennedy Collective's mission, vision, values, and commitment to person-centered care.
- Provide support and coverage across programs, locations, schedules, and service settings as assigned to meet operational and clinical needs.
- Perform other duties, assignments, and projects as requested to support program operations and the needs of individuals served.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in a related field and at least six (6) months of relevant experience; or
- High school diploma or equivalent, current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification, and at least six (6) months of relevant experience. Maintaining active RBT certification is a condition of employment; or
- High school diploma or equivalent with no prior experience, provided the employee obtains RBT certification within ninety (90) days of employment. Obtaining and maintaining active RBT certification is a condition of employment.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record. Must be able to transport individuals served as assigned.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form and work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic health record (EHR) systems, electronic data collection platforms, and internet-based applications.
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment, professionalism, and initiative in a clinical, person-centered environment.
- Must successfully complete and maintain all required agency, payer, regulatory, CPR/First Aid, Safety-Care/PMT (or other approved crisis intervention), and other required trainings, certifications, and qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, Human Services, or a related field.
- Experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment plans and behavior intervention plans under the supervision of a BCBA.
- Experience providing ABA services in clinic, home, school, or community-based settings.
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder across the lifespan.
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations; bilingual skills preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, behavior intervention strategies, reinforcement procedures, prompting techniques, and skill acquisition programs.
- Ability to build positive therapeutic relationships with individuals and families while maintaining professionalism and person-centered practices.
- Ability to accurately collect behavioral and skill acquisition data and complete timely, objective clinical documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with BCBAs, supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Ability to recognize, respond to, and appropriately report behavioral, medical, safety, and emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling protected health information and sensitive clinical matters.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively engage with individuals throughout therapy sessions, including sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, reaching, and participating in play and therapeutic activities.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds independently and greater weights with assistance or adaptive equipment when appropriate.
- Ability to implement approved physical management and crisis intervention techniques following required training when necessary to maintain safety.
- Ability to accompany and transport individuals in clinic, home, school, and community settings as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Primarily works in clinic, home, school, community-based, and other assigned service settings.
- Regular interaction with individuals served, families, guardians, BCBAs, clinicians, educators, healthcare providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Schedule may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional emergency coverage based on program and operational needs.
- Must be available to work assigned schedules across service settings and may be required to accept schedule adjustments or overtime in accordance with agency policy and applicable law.
Success Measures
- Implements individualized ABA treatment plans with fidelity and demonstrates measurable progress toward clinical goals.
- Maintains accurate, timely behavioral data and clinical documentation in accordance with agency, payer, and regulatory standards.
- Consistently meets required billable hour expectations while maintaining timely documentation, treatment fidelity, and quality of care.
- Demonstrates professionalism, ethical conduct, reliability, and compliance with The Kennedy Collective policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Establishes positive therapeutic relationships while promoting meaningful skill acquisition, independence, and improved quality of life.
- Contributes to a safe, engaging, and supportive therapeutic environment while collaborating effectively with clinical leadership and interdisciplinary team members.

Compensation
- Compensation for this position is based on experience, qualifications, and applicable organizational compensation practices, where applicable.
- The hourly rate range for this position will be provided in accordance with applicable federal and Connecticut pay transparency requirements.
