Executive Director of Memory Care

Position Summary: The Executive Director - Memory Care (ED-MC) is a dynamic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of our Inspīr’ Oceana Memory Care Program, ensuring the well-being, safety, and comfort of our residents living with dementia. This role combines strategic management with hands-on operational oversight, embodying our commitment to providing exceptional care and a nurturing environment resident, their families and our associates. The ED-MC will lead the Memory Care Program to promote dementia care expertise, optimal wellness outcomes, resident/family satisfaction, compliance with state regulations, and operational efficiency.

Accountabilities:

• Operational Leadership : Oversees day-to-day operations, focusing on care, lifestyle and culinary experience. Plans, develops, and implements standards and improvements for the Memory Care Program.
• Team Management & Development : Hires, trains, and manages memory care staff, fostering a culture of excellence, empathy, and continuous improvement in dementia care practices.
• Resident & Family Engagement : Acts as a primary liaison with families, offering support, education, and regular updates on resident care and program innovations.
• Compliance & Quality Assurance : Ensures the Memory Care Program meets all federal, state, and company standards, and prepares for inspections by regulatory agencies.
• Program Development : Leads the implementation of specialized service plans tailored to individual needs, integrating Inspīr standards and best practices in dementia care.

Minimum Qualifications  

• Bachelor’s degree in human services management, nursing home management, or a related field. Non-degreed individuals with extensive leadership and dementia care experience may also be considered.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in senior living or LTC operations with a focus on memory care.
• Approval from the State of New York Department of Health, or applicable state regulatory bodies as required by NYDOH regulations
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with experience in staff development and performance management.
• Excellent communication, customer service, and public relations skills.

• Proficiency with SBAR Communication
• Able to use online training platforms, and complete and update a Care Plan
• Able to lead case discussions on residents with complex care needs and effectively lead family/team meetings
• Oral and Written Comprehension and Expression - Must be able to convey and understand information and ideas in English
• Excellent customer service and ability to emotionally connect with residents, their families, peers and associates 
• Ability to maintain positive working relationships with residents, their families, peers and associates
• Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately

• Exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly, to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

Typical Work Duties & Functions

• Operational Leadership & Program Development
• Ensures the Memory Care Program's alignment with Inspīr branded standards, integrating specialized operational and service plans tailored to the unique needs of residents living with dementia.
• Leads the planning, development, and implementation of innovative care practices, ensuring a therapeutic environment that promotes dignity, engagement, and a high quality of life.

· Works collaboratively with department heads to emphasize the team's role in sales and participation in the community marketing action plan and sales action plan

• Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintains ongoing compliance with appropriate local, state, federal, regulatory, and/or accrediting body standards.
  • Ensures that the community is prepared for inspection by regulatory agencies through regular auditing and updating of community policies and procedures, medical records documentation, environmental standards, etc.
• Financial Growth
  • Maintains monthly financial reports and provides explanation for variances while driving strong expense management
  • Oversees departmental budgets and provides guidance to department heads on how to meet budgetary guidelines
  • Optimizes all opportunities to generate revenue, including ancillary revenue
  • Maintains and increases occupancy in accordance with budget

• Staff Management & Development
• Directs the hiring, training, and management of memory care staff, emphasizing continuous education on dementia care best practices and person-centered care approaches.
• Conducts performance reviews, provides coaching, and implements staff development programs to ensure a skilled and compassionate care team.
• Ongoing review and strategizing to assure stronger retention outcomes
• Resident Care & Service Plans
• Collaborates with clinical team to develop and implement customized care plans, focusing on the holistic well-being of each resident.
• Monitors resident progress, adjusting care approaches as needed, and ensures all care documentation is completed promptly and accurately.
• Culinary Experience
• Works closely with the Executive Chef to ensure dining experiences are tailored to residents' needs, preferences, and dietary requirements, enhancing their quality of life.
• Oversees the adaptation of dining environments and practices, including the use of adaptive devices and personalized nutrition plans, to support residents' independence and enjoyment.
• Leads culinary operations on all memory care floors to ensure optimal dining experience, including special dining programs as part of regularly scheduled lifestyle offerings.
• Lifestyle & Engagement
• Leads the creation and execution of a vibrant lifestyle program that includes recreational activities, events, and therapeutic interventions designed for memory care residents.
• Ensures the delivery of person-centered programming that encourages engagement, enhances residents' abilities, and fosters a sense of community.
• Family Engagement & Support
• Acts as a key liaison to families, providing education, regular updates, and support to strengthen understanding and involvement in the care process and lifestyle offerings.
• Coordinates family meetings, support groups, and educational sessions to foster a collaborative approach to care.
• Safety, Compliance, & Quality Assurance
• Maintains rigorous compliance with federal, state, and company standards, ensuring the Memory Care Program is prepared for inspections by regulatory agencies.
• Conducts regular safety audits, implements emergency procedures, and leads efforts to maintain a secure and safe environment for residents.
• Community Relations & Marketing
• Assists with marketing efforts to highlight the Memory Care Program's strengths and innovations, engaging with prospective residents' families and the wider community.
• Develops and maintains partnerships with local organizations, healthcare providers, and advocacy groups to promote awareness and support for dementia care.
• Maintains or grows occupancy to maximum levels
• Meets monthly sales targets, with any variances to be discussed with the Vice President of Sales
