Social Media Associate

Social Media Associate Develop and execute a dynamic social media strategy for the University of Southern California’s Office of Communications, creating engaging visual and written content, managing brand presence, and supporting reputation management efforts. Key Responsibilities Produce and edit visual and written social media content, including photography and rudimentary image editing. Attend events—both during and outside of traditional work hours—to capture and share on‑site content. Manage social media channels to grow audiences, increase engagement, and promote university messaging to target audiences. Proactively develop new ideas to enhance promotion and reach. Monitor social media conversations, blogs, private groups, and news outlets; analyze chatter and report insights. Serve as the primary on‑call point person for emergency and crisis communications on social media. Preferred Qualifications 1+ years of digital marketing or social media experience, preferably in a college/university, nonprofit, government, or public‑traded company setting. Experience coordinating the social media presence of prominent individuals. Exceptional written communication skills and expertise in content management and creative delivery (copy, image, video). Proficiency in social media photography. Strong organizational, multitasking, and detail‑orientation capabilities. Effective communication with senior administration, faculty, staff, and student audiences. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field (preferred). Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 3 years of experience in communications, content development, and writing/editing within an internal corporate communication context. Proficiency with design software/tools (e.g., HTML, CSS, Adobe Creative Suite) for digital assets. Demonstrated knowledge of Associated Press style and multichannel communication platforms.
