Pedestrian Technical Specialist – Access Control 

Position Summary 

The Pedestrian Technical Specialist will support the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of pedestrian access control systems. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable operation of pedestrian entry solutions including turnstiles, speed gates, card readers, intercoms, biometric devices, and related software platforms. 

The ideal candidate will have strong technical aptitude, experience with low-voltage systems, and the ability to work collaboratively with customers, project teams, and field technicians. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Install, configure, test, and support pedestrian access control systems and related hardware.  
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues involving gates, turnstiles, badge readers, biometric devices, sensors, and access control software.  
• Perform preventative maintenance and system inspections to ensure optimal functionality and security compliance.  
• Support commissioning and startup activities for new pedestrian access systems.  
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.  
• Program and configure access credentials, schedules, permissions, and integrations with security management systems.  
• Provide technical support to customers, contractors, and internal teams both remotely and onsite.  
• Coordinate with project managers, engineering teams, and service departments to resolve system issues efficiently.  
• Document service activities, system changes, and troubleshooting steps accurately in service reports and ticketing systems.  
• Train end users and customers on system operation and basic troubleshooting procedures.  
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards and applicable industry regulations.  
• Travel to customer sites as required for installations, service calls, and support.  

Qualifications 

• Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Information Technology, or related field preferred.  
• 2+ years of experience in access control, pedestrian gate systems, security integration, or low-voltage systems.  
• Experience with pedestrian entry solutions such as turnstiles, speed lanes, swing gates, or secured entry systems preferred.  
• Working knowledge of access control platforms, network connectivity, and IP-based systems.  
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software-related issues.  
• Familiarity with wiring standards, relays, sensors, and low-voltage electrical systems.  
• Strong customer service and communication skills.  
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.  
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.  

Preferred Skills 

• Experience with integrated security systems including CCTV, intercom, and visitor management systems.  
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, switches, and remote connectivity.  
• OSHA safety awareness and field service best practices.  

Physical Requirements 

• Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.  
• Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work in indoor/outdoor environments.  
• Ability to travel to customer locations and construction sites.  

Work Environment 

This position may involve work in office buildings, parking facilities, transportation hubs, campuses, industrial sites, and other secured environments. The role may require occasional after-hours or weekend support depending on project and customer needs.
