Travel RN - Pediatrics

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 1 year of pediatric acute care experience and strong skills in central line management and chemo administration.

Job Details

• Work setting is a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center and teaching hospital,
• Unit is a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (PHO) and Pediatric Adolescent (PA) Medicine unit with 16 beds each,
• Patient population includes leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine,
• Average daily census ranges from 14-32 patients across the unit,
• RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 on the Pediatric Adolescent Medicine unit; CNA-to-patient ratio is 1:6-16,
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a (1830-0700), 36 hours per week,
• Every other weekend rotation required,
• No on-call requirement,
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays,
• Floats routinely between PHO, PA, and other units within the children's hospital (excluding Peds ED),
• EMR is Epic; IV pump is Alaris; medication dispensing is Omnicell,
• Bedside telemetry monitoring used; no telemetry tech available on unit,

Job Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required,
• BLS required; PALS preferred,
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric hematology/oncology acute care experience required for PHO placement; minimum 1 year of general pediatric acute care experience required for PA placement,
• Most recent experience must be within the last year,
• Proficiency in central line management and chemotherapy administration required,
• Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills required,
• Epic EMR experience required,
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration,
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required,
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted,
• Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following permanent employment before being eligible,

• Responsibilities include caring for pediatric patients with hematologic, oncologic, and general adolescent medicine conditions, including chemotherapy administration and central line management,
• Departmental support includes CNAs, Receptionist/HUC, Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team for difficult peripheral access, Resource Nurse (availability varies), and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage,
• Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation,
• Scrub color is royal blue; pediatric-appropriate scrub tops are permitted,
