Position Summary The Manual Machinist II is responsible for setting up and operating manual machine tools to repair, rebuild, modify, and fabricate precision components. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to quality and safety. Responsibilities Follow all safety policies and maintain a safe work environment. Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other manual machining equipment. Repair, rebuild, modify, and manufacture precision components to specification. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions. Measure and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment. Design and fabricate fixtures, tooling, and machining procedures as needed. Perform quality inspections to verify dimensions and workmanship. Troubleshoot machining and mechanical issues while identifying process improvements. Perform general machine maintenance and keep equipment in good operating condition. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Collaborate with team members to share technical knowledge and support production goals. Assist with training and mentoring less experienced machinists. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Vocational training, technical school, or apprenticeship preferred. 35 years of manual machining experience. Strong knowledge of manual machining practices and equipment. Experience working with a variety of metals and materials. Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings. Strong understanding of shop mathematics. Experience using precision measuring instruments. Experience with equipment repair or remanufacturing is preferred. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and production tracking systems. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment. Physical Requirements Stand and walk throughout an 8+ hour shift. Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Heavier materials may require lifting equipment or team assistance. Perform precision work requiring manual dexterity and close attention to detail. Safely operate manual machining equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, and related shop equipment (training provided when applicable). Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, oils, coolants, metal shavings, and seasonal temperature changes. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
