Staff Accountant

The Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® (NVAR) is seeking a talented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. With more than 12,000 members and an annual operating budget exceeding $8 million, NVAR is one of the largest and most respected local REALTOR® associations in the country. What You’ll Do Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjusting entries. Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities. Track and reconcile membership dues, conference revenue, sponsorship income, and other key revenue sources. Prepare financial reports and support management reporting needs. Assist with the annual audit and related schedules. Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and organizational policies. Collaborate with departments across the organization to support financial operations and reporting. Participate in the implementation and optimization of a new Financial Management System. Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and reporting accuracy. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or significant progress toward obtaining a CPA within one to two years. 2–5 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience is a plus. Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles. Experience supporting audits and preparing reconciliations. Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative team environment. Why Join NVAR?
