Medical Assistant Team Lead

Position Summary The Medical Assistant (MA) Team Lead supports the efficient day‑to‑day operations of the department by coordinating Medical Assistant staffing and workflows to promote timely patient access, quality care, and positive service experiences. In collaboration with clinical and operational leadership, this role monitors clinic flow, rooming cadence, exam room readiness, and wait times; orders supplies; and serves as a liaison between Medical Assistant staff and management to address operational and patient care issues. The MA Team Lead also supports onboarding, training, and ongoing guidance for Medical Assistant staff and provides direct patient care as needed in accordance with established hospital policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Team Leadership and Supervision: Foster a positive work environment by prompting teamwork, inclusiveness and respect. Supervise a team of Medical Assistants, ensuring optimal workflow and task distribution. Coordinate assignments and breaks to balance workload, promote efficiency, and meet department needs. Conduct regular rounds, monitor task completion, provide coaching, constructive performance feedback, and mentor team members to develop skills and achieve goals. Training, Education and Role Development: Provide training and cross‑training, precept new staff to ensure full orientation to the clinic and MA role, validate routine competencies, participate in the Medical Assistant internship program, and assist in hiring and onboarding. Patient Care and Clinical Duties: Assist nurses and physicians in providing medical care, respond to clinical situations within scope of practice, ensure equipment functions, and keep exam rooms stocked and maintained. Follow clinical practice standards in specimen management, point‑of‑care testing, procedural support, and chaperone sensitive exams. Communication and Coordination: Address conflicts constructively, use effective communication techniques, collaborate with others to resolve disagreements, maintain a respectful work environment, and act as a liaison between staff. Attend and participate in team and departmental meetings, provide insights, perform daily check‑ins, and provide performance feedback through rounding. Emergency Response and Patient Safety: Assist in emergency responses, maintain patient safety following BMC policies and procedures, and complete annual competencies for selected clinical skills, emergency response, and overdose response. Quality Assurance and Compliance: Support supervisory staff to ensure all medical assistants comply with hospital policies, procedures, safety regulations, infection control, and HIPAA; participate in quality improvement initiatives and best‑practice implementation; promptly identify and escalate quality and compliance concerns. Technology and Electronic Medical Records: Administer patient care responsibilities using the electronic health record (EHR) to complete screenings, document care, coordinate follow‑up, schedule appointments, retrieve medical records, and support nursing and provider communication. Mentorship and Staff Development: Lead by example, inspire a respectful and collaborative environment, identify training needs, and coordinate continuing education opportunities for the team. Job Requirements Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED required, successful completion of a medical assistant training program, and 2 years medical assistant work experience. Associate’s degree in a related field preferred. Preferred Supervisory Experience: Prior experience in a supervisory or lead role within a healthcare setting, showcasing the ability to mentor and coordinate a team. Certifications: Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification. Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Medical terminology, clinical procedures, patient care standards, infection prevention, HIPAA, OSHA. Skills in vital signs, wound care, patient mobility, and use of common clinical equipment. Proficiency in EHR documentation. Effective verbal and written communication. Critical thinking and ability to respond in high‑stress environments. Teamwork, de‑escalation, quality recognition, and adaptability. Compensation & Benefits Compensation Range: $47,500.00 – $66,500.00 (based on minimum job qualifications). The range is inclusive of education, experience, skills, certifications, and organizational needs.
