Associate Director, Regional Patient Access & Experience

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Director, Regional Patient Access & Experience based in United States.

This is a high-impact, patient-focused role supporting individuals, caregivers, and healthcare providers throughout the care journey. You will serve as a key regional resource for an ultra-rare disease patient support program, helping patients navigate treatment initiation, adherence, insurance coverage, and access challenges. The role combines direct patient and provider engagement with program operations, education, and cross-functional collaboration. You will build trusted relationships while providing clear guidance on disease education, approved product resources, financial assistance, and infusion logistics. Working across Market Access, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Compliance, and other teams, you will help ensure a coordinated and seamless support experience. You will also contribute field insights, process improvements, and educational initiatives that strengthen the overall patient experience. This remote, one-year-term position is ideal for an experienced healthcare professional who is passionate about patient-centric execution and thrives in a collaborative, resource-efficient environment.

Accountabilities:

• Serve as the key regional point of contact for an ultra-rare disease patient support program, engaging patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to create a coordinated and seamless experience.
• Develop and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers to support therapy initiation and adherence.
• Educate patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals on disease state, approved product materials, insurance navigation, treatment access, and infusion logistics.
• Partner with patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, treatment centers, specialty pharmacies, and payers to navigate coverage, reimbursement, and access barriers.
• Connect patients and caregivers with appropriate financial assistance programs and other available support resources throughout their treatment journey.
• Maintain strong knowledge of the relevant rare disease and MPS therapy area, patient and community needs, support resources, and national patient access dynamics.
• Represent the patient support program at local and national advocacy events and develop or facilitate educational programs using approved materials.
• Monitor program operations, promote team alignment, and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the development and maintenance of operational processes and technologies covering patient engagement and case management activities.
• Collaborate on stakeholder training and ensure activities remain aligned with applicable compliance standards and approved content.
• Partner with Account Leads, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Compliance, and other teams to align program execution and incorporate field insights into broader strategy.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement enhancements based on feedback from patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on access processes, healthcare systems, insurance plans, patient support services, and operational elements of the patient experience program.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; a life sciences field is preferred.
• Typically requires 12+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 10+ years with a Master’s degree, or 7+ years with a PhD.
• Relevant experience supporting patients in pharmaceutical or healthcare settings, case management, social work, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in a patient support program, integrated healthcare provider environment, or managed care setting is desired.
• Experience in rare disease, pediatrics, and/or complex therapies is preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient-centricity and delivering a strong customer experience.
• Experience with field-based patient engagement using approved materials and working within regulatory guidelines is preferred.
• Proven ability to build trust with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals through empathetic listening and thoughtful communication.
• Strong ability to explain complex healthcare and treatment topics clearly using approved educational materials and ensuring understanding.
• Experience developing and delivering patient education programs, including navigating internal review processes, is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of government and commercial payers, including experience addressing access and reimbursement challenges within complex insurance environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization, balancing independent ownership with strong cross-functional collaboration.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.
• Spanish-language proficiency is preferred.
• Willingness and ability to travel as required.
• Comfortable working remotely, with a preference for candidates located within the assigned geographic region.
