Position Title: Executive Director of Elementary Schools

Reports To: Chief of Schools/Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership

Supervises: Principals as assigned by the Chief of Schools/Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership

Qualifications: Possessing proven expertise in North Carolina public school administration and teaching, the candidate is expected to carry out a range of supervisory and administrative responsibilities aimed at directing and overseeing programs and services at designated schools. This role involves planning, directing, and evaluating the operations of school leadership offices, individual schools, and support services, which includes assessing needs, designing programs, and delivering student services. Additionally, the position requires coordinating efforts among federal, state, and local agencies, as well as engaging with parents and division supervisors to ensure that student needs are met. The role also supports monitoring school performance and provides mentoring and coaching to principals through effective problem-solving methods. Strong capabilities in leadership, strategic planning, change management, and overall administrative management are essential for success in this role.

Education/Training: A four-year degree related to education or principal, public school, or central office is preferred. Knowledge of developmental needs of students; knowledge of curriculum; knowledge of programs/legal/budgetary constraints, and requirements. Supervisory expertise required; qualify for or hold a NC License as a School Administrator

Term of Employment: 12 Months

Major Job Function: Manages, coaches, and evaluates principals as directed

Compensation: Negotiable based on qualification and experience

Major Responsibilities General Leadership and Duties: Collaborates with district staff to align all school program activities and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

• Provides guidance and mentorship to principals, campus leaders, and staff.
• Serve as a liaison between schools and external partnerships.

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

• In collaboration with Academic Services, continuously review student performance and other relevant data with principals and teachers, identifying needs in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Works alongside principals and teachers to ensure curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices are consistently aligned across different grade levels. Partners with school leaders and educators to develop professional learning that improves academic performance. Contributes to the development and facilitation of curriculum materials and assessments.
• Initiates research, planning, and project studies to enhance overall school effectiveness.
• Assists in ensuring that educators have a clear understanding of the depth and complexity of the state curriculum.

Management and Budget

• Supports the creation, monitoring, and execution of required improvement plans.
• Assist principals with the creation and management of budgets as needed.
• Assists principals and other administrators in their efforts to run efficient and effective schools by serving as a resource person and problem-solver.

Other Duties

• Performs all other duties as assigned by the Chief of Schools/ Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership
