Preconstruction Manager

Job Description The preconstruction manager will plan and implement delivery of new business initiatives and preconstruction services relative to a particular client, group of clients, geographical area, or type of project. They will plan and monitor overall strategic direction for projects as well as target, develop and maintain customer and design team relationships. Responsibilities Business Development: Develop conceptual estimates, submit proposals, manage the financial aspects of proposals and contracts, monitor construction activities, meet with clients to ensure objectives, provide feedback to the construction team, assist in corrective action plans, develop and manage customer accounts, track sales opportunities, and implement project‑specific sales strategies. Pre‑Construction: Deliver preconstruction services professionally, build “trusted advisor” relationships with owner, GC, and design team, track scope and budget, identify peaks and gaps, build budget contingency, manage transition to project management, establish accurate baseline budget, develop/implement preconstruction strategies to increase growth and margin. Organizational Support: Foster Harris culture, emphasize safety, represent the company at marketing/networking events, project meetings, planning and design sessions, and lead company-sponsored marketing events. Qualifications Associate’s degree in a relevant field; Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred or equivalent experience. 4+ years of industry knowledge in mechanical and plumbing. 4+ years of customer service experience. Proficient understanding of engineering, technology, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment. Knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies, and construction contracts. Advanced understanding of mechanical estimating software and ability to maintain and troubleshoot. Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems. Understanding of cost components, local plumbing/mechanical codes, and SMACNA/MCAA guidelines. Conceptual estimating skills and advanced knowledge of plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems.
