Step into a dynamic environment as a paraprofessional supporting students in special education classrooms across a diverse school district. This contract opportunity offers flexibility, allowing you to pick up shifts as they arise—perfect for those who value variety and want to make a meaningful impact in North Kansas City.
You’ll play a vital role assisting students with behavior intervention plans, providing classroom or 1:1 support, and helping with day-to-day classroom needs, including toileting as required. With 33 schools—primarily elementaries—you’ll have the chance to work in different settings and build a broad range of experience. Schedules vary from early mornings in middle and high schools to later start times in elementary buildings.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Substitute Certificate on DESE (or in process—must be active by start date)
- Experience in schools, especially supporting students with behavioral challenges
- Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms and student needs
- Comfortable utilizing an app to select shifts and get assignments
- Willingness to undergo required fingerprinting for district compliance
- Flexibility to work 1-5 days per week; shift availability can change daily
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with behavioral or special education needs as a classroom aide or 1:1
- Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and collaborate with classroom teachers
- Assist with personal care if needed (including toileting)
- Use the Spindle app to receive and accept assignments
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and staff
