Job Summary The Department of Psychology is seeking an energetic and experienced professional to join the Student Academic Affairs team. The responsibilities of this position include academic advising and student service support to undergraduate students at all phases of their academic careers. Program coordination and undergraduate event planning are primary roles for this position. There is extensive contact with students, faculty, and student services staff administrators. The ideal candidate exhibits a proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach to advising and program management. The individual will report to the Undergraduate Program Manager. Responsibilities* Academic Advising (50%) Provide comprehensive one-on-one academic advising (up to 20 hours/week) to prospective and declared undergraduate students, maintaining accurate advising records and delivering individualized support throughout students' academic careers. Serve as the advisor and program manager for Psychology's Accelerated Master's Degree Program (AMDP). Advise students on degree requirements, long-term academic planning, course selection, registration, graduation procedures, transfer credit evaluations, major declarations, and petitions for exceptions to major requirements. Review student transcripts to identify strengths, monitor academic progress, recognize performance trends, and develop strategies that promote student success and retention. Maintain expert knowledge of psychology curriculum, faculty research, academic policies, and career pathways to help students make informed academic decisions and articulate the value of their liberal arts education for employment, graduate study, and professional programs. Coordinate advising, outreach, communications, and programming for targeted student populations: including first-generation students, transfer students, student veterans, CSP participants, and students experiencing academic difficulty through specialized advising, orientations, summer programming, and other student success initiatives. Provide students and faculty with information regarding departmental programs, student services, and student organizations. Stay current with emerging best practices in academic advising and implement innovative approaches that enhance student services and support continuous improvement. Department Student Administrative Support (30%) Coordinate administrative operations for the Psychology STAR Scholars Program while maintaining accurate student records and generating reports for departmental leadership. Process academic administrative requests, including major declarations, course overrides, transfer credit approvals, and other student records transactions. Coordinate department transfer course evaluation processes and maintain undergraduate program resources, including student handbooks, course information, and advising materials. Plan and support departmental events and outreach initiatives, including commencement, graduate school programming, alumni engagement, prospective student events, transfer student programming, orientations, and other recruitment and retention activities. Collaborate with Psychology Student Academic Affairs staff to support departmental initiatives, programs, and other special projects. Maintain accurate student data, prepare reports, and analyze trends related to enrollment, student engagement, event participation, academic outcomes, and graduation rates. Curriculum & Other Department Support (20%) Provide exceptional customer service by responding to phone, email, and in-person inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and serve as backup support for reception operations during busy seasons. Support implementation of new academic technologies, student information systems, data management processes, reporting tools, and other office improvement initiatives. Collaborate with faculty and staff on special projects and continuous improvement efforts that enhance undergraduate education and departmental operations. Required Qualifications* Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education/experience) in student affairs, education, psychology, or a related field and more than three years related experience in student advising, coordinating programs, and/or events in an academic setting. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, efficiently, and sensitively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff while maintaining confidentiality. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced, and evolving environment. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer service communication skills. Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and database software applications. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-trained, team-oriented environment that prioritizes student success, exceptional customer service, intentional planning, collaboration, and innovation. Demonstrated willingness to develop and implement process improvements, experiment with new approaches, and contribute to continuous improvement of office operations, data management, reporting, and service delivery. Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Desired Qualifications* Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel administration, education, psychology, or a related field. Two or more years of experience providing academic advising, facilitating group processes, coordinating outreach programming, and delivering presentations in a higher education setting. Experience using M-Pathways student records modules and familiarity with University of Michigan LSA academic policies, procedures, and student administration processes. Additional Information The salary range for this position is $47,600 to $59,500, please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.
