Sports & Recreation Manager

Lead the charge in shaping dynamic sports programs and recreation experiences that bring people together. Reporting to the Senior Director of Health & Wellness Programming, TheJCC Greater BostonSports& RecManagerdevelopsandmanageshigh‑quality sports programs and activities atJCCGB. This role requires a motivated, passionate, creativeprofessional, able to work autonomously, and iscommitted to delivering exceptional, member‑focused programming that reflects current trends. The positiondrivesprogramrevenuegrowth, safety, member satisfaction, and retention through strong sports programming and facility operations. Primary responsibilitiesinclude, butare not limited to: Provides strategic and supervisory leadership of our Sports and Recreation programs including, but not limited to, Pickleball, tennis,basketballand table tennis. Owns and manages thestrategic directionofthese programs –identifyingthe best offerings, adjusting the portfolio of programs aswarranted,determiningand settingappropriate pricing,and understanding new developments in these areas. Manages tothe respective budgets of these programs. Proactively works with the managers or instructors of these programs to driverevenuegrowth and positive net asset impact. Searchesfor new offerings, andidentifiesnew optionsthrough research,analyticsand forecasting,that will drive incremental growth of Sports and Rec revenue.Implements andmanagesthese new offerings. Consults and collaborates with the programleadsoutside ofHealth & Wellness for the FEJL youth sports programs, and the JCCGB Maccabi team. Ideates,implementsand managespromotional and retention strategies for all sports programs.Ensures member satisfaction and policyadherence, andcapably manages Sports-related member complaints and issues. Promotes and markets Sports programs, both directly and through collaboration with Marketing. Collaborates and contributes to ad hoc projects and events, including but not limited to, open houses, member appreciation events, and family fun days. Perform administrativefunctionsand coordination necessary to supportH&W Sports & Rec programming, and Sports Facilities operations in support of other programming, including but not limited to: Accountable for all operationallogisticsincluding but not limited tomanagingprogram/service scheduling, court rentals, registrations, staff scheduling, and marketing promotional activity, working collaboratively with the program managers (if applicable) and instructors. ManagesGymnasium oversight and scheduling, including coordination with other departments to support their Sportsfacilities’needs (such as Camps, ELC,After-School Program). This role is the point of contact for all gym requests. Communicates schedule information, includingchanges,internally with Health & Wellness, and with other JCC stakeholders including Membership, MemberRelationsand the On-Duty Managers. Executes a level of functional management of theH&W Operations Coordinator on sports-related activities, including but not limited tolesson scheduling, gym and tennis schedules, programcreationand Sports program registrations. Works with program staff and Facilities to manage all internal/external programs,schedulesand rentals to ensure that the scheduling isaccurateand coordinated in all Health & Wellness spaces. Updates website schedules andReSched(ourroom-bookingtool) bookings. Analyze internal (membership) and external (community) markets toidentifytrends and opportunities. Plan, schedule, staff, budget, and promote all assigned sports-related programs. Maintain efficient gym and facility schedules and ensure equipment is available, functional, and safe.Ordersnew equipment as needed. Report safety hazards, unclean conditions, or malfunctioning equipment promptly. StandardStaffExpectations: Actively create a welcoming dynamic whereeach individualis valued,seenand welcomed. Activelyparticipateas an essential member of the Health & Wellness team. Participate in all staff meetings andtrainingsas assigned and contribute to overall organizational success. Attend JCCGB All Staff meetings. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities:Sports and Recstaff asassigned, including Pickleball, Tennis, Table Tennis and Basketballpros. Identifystaffing needs, and aswarranted, overseethehiring and onboardingofnewSportsandRecstaff. Supervise allSports Pros, including Pickleball, Tennis, Table Tennis and Basketballpros.This includesscheduling,managingand executing Sports Instructor payrolland collaborating on program strategy,pricingand promotion. Perform supervisory responsibilitiesin accordance withthe organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and onboarding employees; payroll; class scheduling; performance management; sharing member feedback; problem resolution; andcollaboratewithH&W leadership andthe Human Resources Departmentfor any disciplinary action matters. Uphold the policies of the organization and align work with the overall mission,vision,and strategicobjectivesof theJCC;reportto theSeniorDirector of Fitness & WellnessProgramsany related issues. Create/facilitatean environment where employees can achieve individual goals. Conduct supervisory meetings toprovideon-goingguidance,directionandsupervision.Foster effective relationships withSports Proswhileprovidingon-going guidance, engagement, and supervision via regular staff communication and oneon onemeetings as needed. Coordinate procurement for program needs. Oversee equipment and supplypurchasing. Attend program staff meetings and management meetings. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, experience, and JCC’s internal equity.
