Assistant Director of Clubs and Leadership Programs

Position Summary The Assistant Director of Clubs and Leadership Programs provides strategic leadership and direct support for registered student organizations and leadership development initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Director of Belonging and Student Engagement, the Assistant Director is responsible for advising student leaders, developing inclusive leadership programs including our Urban Leadership Program, managing organization compliance and risk processes, tracking and approving club registration, re‑registration, events, and funding requests, and advancing co‑curricular learning aligned with institutional values. Student Organization Program Oversight and Support (40%) Serve as the primary resource for student organizations and their leaders, providing strategic direction, administrative oversight, and support for club registration, renewal, event, and funding approval processes. Advise and support student leaders and organization advisors in event planning, budgeting, organizational development, recruitment, fundraising, group management, and goal setting. Host training, onboarding, and club orientation programming that compliments the registration and renewal process, ensuring club leaders are equipped to lead their student organizations. Manage the Campus Event Funding (CEF) program, which provides funding for student organizations to carry out engagement activities. Ensure that the fund maximizes impact for student engagement in an equitable and appropriate manner while providing an accessible process for students to follow. Partner with Auraria Campus Event Services office for event registration review and approval, risk management, and general event advisement duties. Ensure compliance with institutional policies, fiscal procedures, risk management and liability practices, and Auraria Campus activity guidelines and policies. Lead a weekly student organization activity and funding review meeting with the department budget analyst that reviews club activity, organizes club supply procurement, and reviews CEF funding processes and approvals. Manage and maintain the implementation and maintenance of the student organization management platform. Collaborate with the Graduate Assistant of Office Operations to build out and send “Rowdy’s Rundown,” the monthly student club and leader newsletter. Meet quarterly with the Budget Analyst to review student organization spending, tracking, review trends, and fiscal management, while overseeing the fiscal structure(s), available resources, and related policies impacting student organization accounts and finances. In consultation with colleagues, regularly audit, review, and update relevant operational expectations for student organizations, their leaders, and their advisors. Draft, edit, and publish relevant standards, guides, and/or manuals as necessary to educate the community on such operational expectations such as student organization handbook and student organization financial handbook. Actively participate in campus‑wide initiatives designed to promote student organizations. Leadership Programming (30%) Set the strategic vision for co‑curricular leadership programming in CMEI in partnership with the Associate Director of Belonging and Student Engagement, ensuring that this vision aligns with the University’s and department’s strategic plan and goals. Develop, design, implement, and assess the MSU Denver Urban Leadership Program (ULP). Ensure robust scholar support, superior administrative management, and an aggressive marketing strategy. Coordinate weekly ULP seminars, bi‑weekly seminars, and associated service projects, site visits, guest lecturers, and member scholarship requirements. Host semesterly ULP cohort meetings where members of the ULP cohort can meet with leadership, seek guidance, and receive mentorship. Conduct an annual review of ULP scholarship requirements, ensuring manageability, compliance, and curriculum effectiveness. Outline and implement recruitment strategies to maintain ULP cohort size, provide ULP presence at cross‑institutional events, and program annual ULP interview day. Host an annual leadership retreat/conference that introduces student leaders to leadership concepts, service, civic engagement, and self‑growth. Serve as the department representative on and build relationships with various institutional and statewide committees, including the Colorado Leadership Alliance (CLA) and Denver Scholarship Foundation. When appropriate, serve as a representative for tri‑institutional leadership programming, including identity‑based leadership summits, conferences, and programming. Supervision and Operations (15%) Recruit, select, hire, train, onboard, and evaluate a team of student employees who lead programming and support for student organizations and leadership programs. Follow administrative employment duties, approve timesheets, and train students regarding roles and responsibilities. Track all expenses and related funding sources to ensure fiscal responsibility, while providing middle and end‑of‑semester reports. Program and Department Operations and Assessment (10%) Compile data and create reports used for semesterly and annual CMEI reports, student retention analysis, and university‑wide strategic planning outcomes. Conduct an annual assessment of student organization leaders, focusing on learning outcomes and student satisfaction to develop new and innovative student support measures. Track all expenses and related funding sources to ensure fiscal responsibility, while providing reports at semester and year ends. Conduct general student satisfaction surveys following events and programs for qualitative analysis. Other Duties as Assigned (5%) Regularly attend and engage in CMEI staff meetings, events, programs, trainings, and projects. Participate in relevant professional development activities to support professional and departmental growth as outlined by leadership. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director/Executive Director. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Two (2) to three (3) years of professional experience supporting student engagement, student activities, leadership programs, or student organizations. Experience improving processes, programs, or services that support student organizations. Experience managing student organization funding and compliance processes. Experience developing and delivering leadership programs for scholarship recipients, student cohorts, or student leaders. Experience supervising student employees, peer leaders, or graduate assistants. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Leadership Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field. Experience in leadership theory, student development theory, civic engagement, or related leadership frameworks. Experience using student organization management systems (e.g., Engage or similar platforms). Experience designing leadership curriculum and programs for student leaders. Experience supporting risk management, marketing and outreach, assessment, policy development, and operational planning related to student engagement programs and student organizations. Work Hours Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; Full Time; Exempt; Evening and weekend work: As needed; Work arrangement: Hybrid; Travel: Rare, as needed. Salary for Announcement We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300–$66,500. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
